Background / History
Zhao Yu fled famine alongside Chen Mo. Although they had known one another for some time, they only exchanged names shortly before agreeing that Chen Mo would sell her to the Liu Family of Beihe County under the pretense that he was her husband. The sale yielded five mace of silver, much of which Zhao Yu gave to Chen Mo, helping him survive and enlist in the army. 2 6
At the Liu residence, Zhao Yu endured harsh labor and became severely gaunt. Chen Mo redeemed her as soon as he could, honoring his promise despite their short acquaintance. Their relationship was founded on unusual mutual trust: Zhao Yu had supported him with nearly all the proceeds of her sale, while Chen Mo had worked to secure her freedom. 32
After her redemption, Zhao Yu settled in Small Pao Town, managed their household, and began cooking for Chen Mo. With his investment, she established a food stall along the town's bluestone path; the work restored her health, confidence, and sense of purpose. 33 34 45
She later moved with Chen Mo to Zhun Niu Market after his official appointment. Their relationship became formally marital, and Zhao Yu received a marriage certificate with Chen Mo. 59 99
In the capital, Zhao Yu reunited with her maternal uncle, Xu Jin, who had been distraught over her disappearance and thanked Chen Mo for rescuing her. She was subsequently granted the title of Fourth Rank Imperial Order Wife, then elevated to First Rank Imperial Order Wife alongside Chen Mo's rise in rank. 120 135 167
As Chen Mo's strength and responsibilities expanded, Zhao Yu began martial cultivation under his guidance. She remained in the Ancestor Realm and later the Heavenly Court Secret Realm to cultivate in safer, richer environments. Chen Mo moved her entire courtyard into the Heavenly Court Secret Realm and created a spatial connection to his capital residence for her convenience. 234 250
Following her advancement to the Innate Realm, Zhao Yu became responsible for feeding and caring for Kun Qi, a newly born Kun Peng Divine Beast, whenever Chen Mo was away. 281
