While the False Immortality spell remained in effect, any more serious injury would break the state. To prevent Mr. Urian from trying to throw away his life again by biting his tongue or something similar, Shade first splashed the water in the test tube in his hand, already glimmering with silver light, onto him, then summoned the Great Sin Chains.
The chains emerged from his sleeves and coiled around the young man lying on the ground, loop after loop. The Great Sin Chains restrained a person's ability to move; this was not achieved through simple binding. Once someone was wrapped in the chains, all of their ability to act would be affected.
"Iluna, looking at him now, do you think he's been affected by a relic?"
Even though he could not move at all, Mr. Urian continued to glare at them with bloodshot eyes, as though he wanted to bite them to death.
"Maybe he had already gone mad when his younger sister died. Otherwise, no matter how much he missed her, he shouldn't have disturbed the dead."
Iluna spoke, but then frowned at Shade's chains again.
"These are the Great Sin Chains you mentioned? They weren't very noticeable in the dark, but seeing them this close under the gas lamp, why do these chains look so... um, filthy?"
She could not find a better word.
"I wield the power; the power doesn't wield me. Don't worry, darkness won't consume me."
"I'm very reassured about you, Shade. I would never distrust you."
Iluna said slowly.
"I just wanted to ask whether these chains would deepen the influence of emotions?"
As they spoke, Mr. Urian, who was tightly bound to the ground by the Great Sin Chains, turned red in the face, his eyeballs seeming ready to burst from their sockets.
