After examining the box, Shade hesitated to speak, while Mr. Cameron was quite pleased:

"Detective, you found a hidden compartment in the box, didn't you? I once suspected it was a scam too, but I'm certain there is no hidden compartment. This truly is technology that transcends its era."

He seemed rather proud:

"I think your client must have bought a fake Victor Box. Someone probably heard of this special technology and wanted to forge one to deceive people. Detective, you should investigate from that angle instead of questioning whether this technology is real."

His heartfelt conviction stood in stark contrast to the box on the table.

Shade pursed his lips and nodded. He took the Mind Crystal Ring from his pocket, put it on behind his back, and turned to look out the window at the city shrouded in Great Fog:

"Hm? What is that?"

Shade suddenly said. Mr. Cameron turned toward the window in confusion but saw nothing. When he turned back to Shade, he happened to meet his eyes. For that instant, the Detective's eyes seemed to possess a strange power, making Mr. Cameron believe he had been punched in the face.

His vision instantly went dark:

"Oh!"

He threw his head back against the sofa, but he did not faint. Instead, as he heard Shade say, "Just fog. The pollution has been getting worse lately," he felt as though he had suddenly understood something.

The factory owner straightened up and stared at the box on the table in shock. Then he hunched his neck and scratched his hair:

"I was fooled?"

The effect of the thaumaturgy Mind Blast was to shake the mind and detonate the soul. At its lowest intensity, it did little harm to ordinary people, at most giving them headaches for several days.
