"I heard Miss Galina say that the entire Council has no Luku Birds left. Don't you have any other mounts? I've seen the undead Bone Horse Miss Aurora summoned."
Shade asked curiously. The Witch walking beside him carried the familiar fragrance of "Witches' Taste" perfume. Miss Benanis's perfume smelled colder, though Shade could not tell what kind of flower it was.
"I'd quite like a Unicorn."
The Blonde Witch's tone was rather endearing, but that could not conjure up a Unicorn for them.
"Mr. Hamilton, you're probably laughing at this idea of mine in your heart. But just as boys often fantasize about owning sharp swords and tall White Horses when they are young, pretty girls also dream of Unicorns when they are little."
But Outlanders did not fantasize about owning swords as children. Shade had dreamed of cannons and rockets.
"Unicorns, huh."
The two continued along the river channel. Snow-covered land and forests stretched along both banks. They occasionally encountered animals running across the snow surface, but all of them instinctively avoided the pair. Shade somewhat regretted leaving that lazy Cat in Tobesk. It ought to have seen a scene like this too; it would probably have been very interested in the rabbits.
"In Saint Byron's dangerous creature classification, Unicorns are in the same category as dragons."
Shade recalled what he had learned, then realized that Witch Echo: Olanord had given him even more knowledge about Unicorns. One-eighth of Miss Olanord's blood was Elven, descended from the Longleaf Elf royal family, and thus her mount was a Unicorn. Witch Echo had clearly granted only part of the Witch's knowledge, yet at the thought of "Unicorn," an image immediately surfaced in his mind: the valiant, sharp-eared Witch riding a snow-white beast across the vast Snowfield.
This was not Shade's imagination.
