"Three in Randall River Valley, one in Tobesk, one in Pantanal. In just half a month, I've seen five."
Shade sighed as he searched his pocket for the ordinary soil he had prepared in advance, intending to cast a spell. But after he crushed the soil and scattered it, the thaumaturgy failed to take effect.
"This time is different from before. I need to see the core of the contaminated area before I can purify this land."
Shade brushed the dirt from his hands. Iluna nodded, and the two still had to enter the building before them.
"So what is the characteristic of this Mad Earth? It isn't petrification or gathering evil spirits, like you mentioned before."
The souls in the mansion did not look like evil spirits either. At least, they did not appear to be.
"We'll talk once we're inside. The lingering power of the evil thing is seriously interfering with my perception. I can't say for sure what will happen."
He drew Night Watchman. Its silver blade gleamed beneath the moonlit night. The runes on the sword lit up as it sensed the power of the evil thing, and Shade was already prepared for battle.
There was naturally no lighting inside the abandoned mansion. After entering the corridor by moonlight, the two found the stairs leading to the 2nd Floor, intending to first meet the souls trapped here.
The interior of the house was even more decrepit than expected. Even the staircase had collapsed. Fortunately, that was no great problem for two Mid-Ring Arcanists.
But upon reaching the 2nd Floor, they discovered that all the souls who had been standing at the windows watching them had vanished. The abandoned corridor was illuminated by glaring moonlight, making the scene rather eerie.
"Let me take a look."
