His soul was already gripped by intense stabbing pain, because the Night Watchman in Iluna's hand was also pointed at him. He was not an evil spirit, but the essence of Mad Earth had changed the nature of his soul, and the Night Watchman sensed its malice:
"You have only one chance. Do you know where the missing Mr. Thomas Granjay went? Where were Mr. Granjay's letters to your family hidden?"
After Shade finished speaking, Iluna beside him immediately began counting down:
"Three, two—"
"I don't know where he went! But I know where the letters are! In a crack in the basement wall! Those cursed letters are what turned us into this! Damn Thomas Granjay, may you never find peace after death!"
The baron cursed loudly, as though he had broken down, shouting and endlessly cursing Mr. Granjay.
"Take us to the basement."
Iluna said. The seventeen-year-old girl felt somewhat regretful that, although she had come along, she had not been much help. Still, things going smoothly was a good thing:
"Once we get those letters, we can spare you. But afterward, you have to tell the truth."
Though Iluna promised that, once they reported this to The Church afterward, The Church would deal with these souls.
Shade withdrew the Great Sin Chains, but did not dismiss the Light of Imprisonment. Since he could directly touch spirits, he carried the bound soul and returned from the third floor to the 1st Floor with Iluna.
The scattered souls did not appear at all during this time. They were clearly terrified of the two of them.
Ghosts could move through the manor simply by passing through walls, but Shade and Iluna could not get through the collapsed basement entrance. They could only dig their way in helplessly, and with Shade's Witch
