It was easy to determine what this place had been used for, because Shade had set up his own potion and alchemy laboratory like this in the basement of 6 Saint Derain Square.
It was just that compared to Shade's laboratory, the instruments here were quite antiquated. Judging by their materials, they were at least relics from before the Steam Epoch, and some were even worthy of being sent to a museum. Yet among these outdated old objects lay a folded letter.
The letter had been placed conspicuously atop the experiment table, with two stones enchanted with Long-Lasting Illumination beside it, as though its owner had been afraid later visitors might miss it.
Shade stepped over the Ritual Matrix on the floor, whose effects were unknown. Worried that the letter might be a trap, he examined it carefully before picking it up. Rather than reading its contents first, he looked at the signature:
Thomas Granger
This was the first Guardian Shade had encountered, the one who had granted him Earth Power in the Emerald Dream and whose remains had been left beside the Old Gods Statue at White River Valley Vineyard.
"I lied to Earl Granger before coming here, telling him that his great-uncle might have visited the family's old cemetery. I never expected it to be true."
Shade thought to himself, then began carefully reading the letter.
To whoever comes after:
Congratulations on finding this place.

I discovered the location of this laboratory in old family books, and also discovered a grave robber who had died here. The grave robber likely lived around 1690. By the time I wrote this letter, he had become an
