Green Lake City's Public Cemetery stood by the lake outside the city, built along the water and adjacent to Lower Grior Village, known as the "Gravedigger's Village." There was no fog by the lakeshore outside the city, so the scenery was indeed quite pleasant when Shade arrived here on a spring morning. From his conversation with the coachman in the carriage just now, he had learned that there was a dedicated dock behind the cemetery for holding Water Burial Ceremonies. Upon hearing that Shade was from out of town, the coachman had even recommended that he visit it.

However, Shade more or less understood where all the Water Ghosts and corpse materials in Green Lake had come from.

The carriage stopped at the cemetery entrance. A black iron gate and the fences extending to either side marked the cemetery's boundary. Beyond the gate lay a quiet cemetery, with only scattered citizens paying respects to the deceased or clearing weeds from around graves.

Following the paths through the cemetery, Shade quickly found the grave of the Green Siblings' father, Mr. Nicholas Green. Because his marriage had fallen apart, the man had not been buried beside his wife. He rested beneath a large banyan tree, and since the Green Siblings visited often, his tombstone was clean and his grave had not been swallowed by weeds.

Nicholas Kelvin Green

1761–1843, died at home

May you rest in peace, Father

"Died at eighty-two? That really was a long life."

Shade murmured as he bent down and ran a hand over the tombstone. He then moved behind it and examined the soil covering the grave with his naked eye. Once he was certain he could find nothing that way, he lightly stamped his foot. Chains slipped from beneath his trouser leg and pierced the ground.
