Shade suspected that Little Mia understood the word "cat" spoken by Illustrious Miss, because she struggled even harder.
"That black cat... So, Illustrious Miss, you're here now because...?"
Before he could finish the question, Shade felt the Anchor Silver Ornament in his pocket growing warm. The blue-eyed girl continued walking with him toward the depths of the cemetery:
"Mr. Watson, please lead the way. The fourth task is about to begin."
Illustrious Miss did not say where they were going, so Shade led the way. Following the location recorded on the note, they found the grave of Mr. Harry Gilott, who had been killed at Rhodes Cards Casino.
Calling it a grave was not quite accurate. It was actually a niche in the wall of an underground tomb beneath the cemetery, containing an urn of ashes. Since The Church had paid for the burial on humanitarian grounds, the urn was rather plain, and the inscription beside it only briefly listed his name and dates of birth and death.
But at least there were two bouquets of slightly wilted white jasmine beside the urn. It seemed that even a criminal had still received the respect due to the dead.
The underground tomb was exceptionally cold, but neither Shade nor Illustrious Miss showed any discomfort. Shade certainly did not expect to find any Rhodes Cards that might have been beneath the urn. Even if that card had been on Mr. Gilott at the time, someone else would have taken it long ago.
He had originally wanted to use Spirit Communication to ask a few questions, but he had not mastered the advanced technique of communicating with ashes. Fortunately, the dead merchant's soul itself was here. When Shade and Illustrious Miss entered the tomb, Harry Gilott's soul was standing expressionlessly before the wall
