Last time, the Eternal Light group had not investigated this place carefully. Shade called Mr. Albert over to search thoroughly, especially beneath the carpet, behind picture frames, and in the bottoms of cabinets for hidden compartments.
Though the coroner did not understand why, seeing how "professional" Shade was, he began following his instructions.
As they searched, they talked. Shade thus learned that Old Lady Fox had already reported the matter to the police, but the officers had merely come to register the case and then done nothing further.
"That is not just because this is the Lower District. The police have had plenty of troubles of their own lately. Mr. Watson, peaceful days are over."
The talents of the Bloodkin truly were enviable. Aside from searching with his hands, Mr. Albert coughed a few times and, relying on the echoes, was actually able to detect Hidden Spaces such as concealed compartments.
Of course, that did not work on compartments concealed by supernatural powers.
Thus, the two quickly found hidden items in a compartment in the wardrobe and beneath loose floorboards under a spare gas cylinder.
Mr. Albert still had reservations about casually rummaging through other people's belongings, but Shade simply reached in and pulled everything out.
"My main abilities are not actually combat. They are tracking, burglary, smuggling, and playing cards."
Shade introduced himself. Mr. Albert opened his mouth, unsure what to say, and began to suspect that he might have misunderstood the man before him.
"Firearms, bullets, forged identification papers, loose change and banknotes from various countries, keys to who-knows-where, two tickets to the New Continent with no time limit, personal keepsakes..."
At the very bottom of the compartment, Shade found a small box. Inside was a round badge bearing a golden rose design.
