Amid the music of that ancient sacrificial dance and the prayers of the devout priests at the center of the Sacrificial Ground, the Silver Fire shooting into the sky seemed kneaded by an invisible hand, forming a staircase beneath the stars that extended toward the Moon.
Likewise, the scattered sparks beneath the altar formed a staircase stretching from beneath Shade's feet toward that mass of Silver Fire. By then, however, the flames of the bonfire had surrounded the staircase, forming three bright silver arches.
It seemed someone gave Shade a push from behind, and so he stepped onto the stairs made of flame.
The sensation was quite interesting. He did not turn around to look behind him, but simply walked upward.
Passing through the three silver arches above the altar, all that lay before him was the vast starry sky and the ever-closer Moon. Yet even as Shade climbed step by step, the music of the sacrificial dance and the prayers in his ears did not weaken in the slightest.
The Sage's Illusion formed from the Silver Moon and the starry sky had already vanished without a trace. Yet the Moon now seemed to Shade like a gentle eye.
