Shade even asked at a time like this. Leisha and Dorothy both nodded, and Miss Writer remarked:
"Although I'd already read the reports, seeing a doppelganger in person still makes me want to say how terrifying these things are. Not because of their appearance, but because of the traits they display. They're clearly monsters, yet they can imitate every word and action of a human being so exquisitely. That's truly frightening."
Shade was still unwilling to alert it, so he considered checking on Viscount Alfield. Since the Doctor's patient had been turned into a doppelganger by one, perhaps Viscount Alfield faced the same danger.
Doppelgangers thoroughly understood the structure of human society, and they were more than happy to turn nobles and people in power into "one of their own."
However, finding Viscount Alfield did not go smoothly. Although Major Rades had said the Viscount would definitely be at The Club that afternoon, Shade and the young ladies did not find him in the 1st Floor room assigned to commercial trade representatives.
Shade suspected that he was discussing business with someone in another room, so Dorothy and Leisha released swarms of Red Butterflies to help investigate. They were not physical entities, but visible manifestations of a spatial phenomenon; in essence, they were merely spatial fluctuations.
Meanwhile, Shade used Enhanced Space Perception to determine The Club's spatial layout, but unfortunately, it did not have the underground space he had imagined.
Dorothy and Leisha's search also ultimately failed to find Viscount Alfield. So either Major Rades's intelligence was wrong, or the man had a powerful relic protecting him. The former was more likely, though, since the Major himself had said that the information had merely come from casual conversations
