Shade was certain that Miss Novare's "mouth on her right hand" was definitely not some Bloodkin secret art, but a rather dangerous power. However, he was not foolish enough to point it out now. Instead, he once again confirmed his own suspicion:
"It seems the residents chosen for this mission really are three companions."
At least Miss Novare looked perfectly normal now. The Eye Demon was no longer moving, and after discussing it, the two decided to take the risk of returning it to the room corresponding to the number that had appeared above its head.
Naturally, they would not enter the room. They simply threw the monster inside. When Shade shut the door, there was a clatter, and a key fell at his feet. He quickly picked it up and inserted it into the keyhole, locking the door from the outside. Only then did he notice the room number written on the key's bow. Both he and Miss Novare knew what it meant.
They returned to the door of Room 0300, and this time there was no mishap when opening it. Shade even had time to try both keys in his hand, but as expected, only the key from the dried corpse's hand could open the door.
The door opened smoothly. Beyond it was not a room, but an elevator blocked off by a barred gate. The elevator itself resembled an iron cage used to hold animals in a zoo, except there was a button in the center of its floor that could be stepped on—an utterly classic design.
After pushing open the barred gate, the two walked straight inside. The light from their lamps was strictly confined within the bars and did not illuminate the outside in the slightest.
The
