As for "Hero," this fate was not entirely without traces. It was simply that the Ancient Witch and the diviner had already bestowed that fate upon the Night Watchman, and the longsword was no longer pure fate. Iluna was still missing the final Hero.
"The candidates of Fate are all still far from the Ring of Fate, while Iluna is only one step away."
Half-awake, Shade thought this, then recalled the summer of 1853, when he had first seen Iluna outside Good Man Peter's Pet Shop on Purple Iris Lane:
"But thinking about it carefully, hasn't she always been like this?"

The witch's golden eyes looked at him reproachfully in the darkness. She was very close to him. Galina's voice sounded directly in Shade's heart; she was clearly still dwelling on what had happened last night.
Shade smiled and kissed her forehead:
"Go to sleep. I'm not going anywhere."
Only then did Galina hug his arm and return to her dreams.
Dorothy on the other side did not wake, but she unconsciously moved a little closer to Shade as well. Shade lay with his eyes open, looking at his own ceiling, and in a daze felt as though he saw that starry sky from the dream again:
