Shade knew the cat was kindly reminding him. Then he felt that this cat disguised by a demon seemed more like a real cat than Little Mia.
He shook his head to dispel the strange thought.
"I'm also very interested in the rest of the demon's story, but I really have something urgent to do."
He did not ask why the Black Cat and Black Dog were following Mr. Asmon. Instead, he asked:
"You should be able to sense that this area of the docks has been sealed off by an invisible barrier. Can you think of a way to help me escape this space?"
The Black Cat and Black Dog clearly knew about it.
"You know, we do not have much power. Stone Osenfott made a wish to 'fight demons' before summoning us, but we could not deal with Stone Mirror Demon-Goth. In the end, he merely left us at the manor to care for Madam Osenfott. If not for your rescue, we likely would not even have our freedom now."
Of course, Shade knew that.
"But even if you have no power, I still believe you have a way to get me out of here."
The Black Cat and Black Dog did not deny it. The Black Dog continued in the butler's voice from before:
"You helped us, but the hint we gave you back then already repaid that favor. We think highly of you and would be happy to help you once more, but if you accept our help, you must give something in return.
"This is not a threat. It is a rule we must obey. If we helped you for nothing, that would be the real threat to you."
Shade understood.
