Appearance

Snow Manes are enormous, white-furred Frost Beasts with ice-like spikes or barbs covering their backs and large tusks protruding from their heads. Their most distinctive feature is a long, sharp tongue that can extend roughly four to six meters and change between a rigid, piercing form and a flexible, whip-like form 10 20.

• Juveniles are around two meters long and weigh approximately 300–400 jin.
• Adults generally weigh more than 1,000 jin; one observed adult stood two meters at the shoulder and measured over four meters in length 10 19.
• Their backs are covered in sharp spikes capable of severely injuring attackers.
• Their tongues can pierce targets, curve around obstacles, and strangle or decapitate opponents 11 20.
• Their eyes can be blinded without completely eliminating their ability to detect nearby creatures through sound 11 20.

Personality and Behavior

Snow Manes display considerably greater intelligence than ordinary animals. They can assess threats, exploit an opponent’s weaknesses, use terrain to their advantage, and deliberately feign death. One injured Snow Mane remained motionless until a hunter approached its body, then attacked without warning 11.

They are highly aggressive when threatened and fiercely compete with other Frost Beasts over access to the Small Torch’s warmth. Despite their ferocity, they can also recognize when they are at a disadvantage; an adult Snow Mane used a retreating Frost Wolf’s tactics and exploited its terrain-dependent movements during their second battle 19 20.

Snow Manes are usually extremely sleepy at night unless disturbed. During the day, Frost Beasts are more active and considerably stronger, making an awake Snow Mane especially dangerous 1 10.

Physical Strength and Charging Power

Snow Manes possess immense physical strength and can combine their weight with tremendous speed during a charge.

• A juvenile’s charge was powerful enough to scatter a group of Lumbering Realm fighters.
• An adult Snow Mane’s charge exceeded Xia Hong’s ability to stop it with 6,400 jin of force.
• A healthy adult’s charging power was estimated to exceed 10,000 jin, comparable to Earth-Piercer-level combat power 14 20.

Spikes, Tusks, and Defensive Hide

The Snow Mane’s back, head, and body are protected by spikes, tusks, and exceptionally durable hide.

• Its tusks can impale or launch another Frost Beast.
• Its back spikes pierced the mouth of a Frost Wolf when the wolf attacked from below.
• Arrows and Great Sabers struggled to penetrate its body directly.

Long Tongue

The long tongue is the Snow Mane’s most dangerous weapon. It can alternate between a rigid ice-cone-like shape and a flexible, rope-like form 10 11 20.

Firelight Recovery

The Small Torch’s flame has a powerful restorative effect on Frost Beasts. An injured Snow Mane’s bleeding stopped and its wounds visibly began healing after it stood in the torchlight 12.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Encounter with Big Stone Camp

Xia Hong first discovers a juvenile Snow Mane sleeping on an Ice Vast Tree. While he prepares to collect Crystal Fruit, Big Stone Camp attacks it. Their coordinated use of archers and ropes appears successful, but the Snow Mane survives and feigns death. When the hunters approach, it kills three of them and forces the survivors to flee 10 11.

Torch and Frost Wolf Conflict

Xia Hong attempts to lure the wounded juvenile away from its resting place with a Small Torch. Instead, the firelight heals the Snow Mane and appears to strengthen it. A Bone-spurred Frost Wolf arrives, and the two Frost Beasts fight over the torch. The Frost Wolf eventually kills the Snow Mane and carries the torch into the forest 12.

Xia Hong later retrieves the corpse and brings it back to Great Xia Camp, where its meat becomes an important source of cultivation resources 13.

Adult Snow Mane Hunt

Xia Hong later uses the same torch-based strategy against an adult Snow Mane and an adult Frost Wolf. The Snow Mane survives the wolf’s ambush, severely injures it, and drives it away, but suffers devastating damage to its hind leg 19 20.

Xia Hong then confronts the weakened Snow Mane. He redirects its charge, severs its tongue, and coordinates with Xia Chuan and Yuan Cheng to attack its injured hind leg. The three eventually kill it and bring its carcass back to Great Xia Camp 20 21.

After processing, the carcass provides 1,270 jin of meat and becomes the foundation for a broader Frost Beast meat-distribution system 21.
