Background

Luo Ming is the eldest son and successor of Luo Feng, Rogue Camp’s former leader. He assumed leadership after Luo Feng’s encounter with a Grotesque, subsequent mental collapse, and withdrawal from public life fifteen years earlier 38 44.

Rogue Camp had become the only medium-sized camp around Redwood Ridge under Luo Feng. Luo Ming maintained its position but lacked the resources to expand on his father’s scale: during his fifteen-year leadership, only two small, failing camps merged into Rogue Camp 42.

To preserve the surrounding camps’ ability to survive, Luo Ming convened the leaders of the eight neighboring camps, divided the outskirts of Redwood Ridge into territories, and prohibited border-crossing for resources 42. Rogue Camp grew to more than a thousand residents and avoided freeze-related deaths for nearly twenty years through its coal-heated settlement 41.

Luo Ming is shrewd, cautious, and pragmatic. Having kept Rogue Camp independent for fifteen years, he is suspicious of Yang Ning and Li Hu’s stated altruism, correctly believing they have a personal interest in hunting the Wood Puppet Grotesque 39.

He remains composed when insulted, such as when Li Hu belittles Rogue Camp and the other settlements. He instead extracts useful information from Li Hu’s mockery about coal cultivation 41. Luo Ming is also protective of the neighboring camps, repeatedly attempting to sustain their alliance despite its heavy casualties and internal distrust 39 40.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Wood Puppet Grotesque Encounter

Luo Ming joins Yang Ning and Li Hu in confronting the Wood Puppet Grotesque controlling Xia Ding and other lumber team members. Though his spear cannot harm the Grotesque, he helps fend off its animated trees before it escapes 24 25.

After learning that the Grotesque may soon become an intermediate Artisan Grotesque, Luo Ming pleads with the North Shuo Town scouts to aid the camps around Redwood Ridge. He agrees to their condition of obedience and undertakes to gather the other camps into an alliance 25 27.

Campaign in Redwood Ridge

Luo Ming leads Rogue Camp beyond Redwood Ridge’s thousand-meter boundary for the first time while participating in the hunt. He witnesses the overwhelming disparity between his own power and Li Hu’s, as well as the campaign’s mounting casualties 38.

He suspects that Yang Ning and Li Hu seek profit from the Wood Puppet Grotesque, but continues organizing the camps’ Lumbering Realm cultivators as bait because he believes the Grotesque cannot otherwise be stopped 39.

Alliance Crisis

Following four failed attempts to kill the Grotesque, Luo Ming struggles to prevent the alliance from collapsing. He acknowledges the camps’ losses, apologizes to Yang Ning and Li Hu to keep them from leaving, and provides Shi Qing with Crystal Fruits when Big Stone Camp can no longer participate 39 40.

At Rogue Camp, Luo Ming makes clear that he will not force the remaining leaders to stay. However, if they withdraw, Rogue Camp will stop the campaign and may ultimately have to abandon Redwood Ridge in search of another place to survive 42 43.
