"Tut..." Reiner licked his lips. He was not looking forward to this sort of thing; rather, he felt somewhat resistant to it.
Although he had been quite envious of the First Night Right in this dark age in his previous life, he had abandoned that notion after arriving in this era. At first, he had really wanted to experience the feeling of having a "*** maiden," but no one had ever offered herself to him. He could hardly go and forcibly take some commoner's daughter.
Having mistakenly believed that such a custom did not exist here, he had forgotten all about it. Only now did he learn that this "First Night Right" was something only the wealthy among the commoners could afford.
Rubbing his head, Reiner felt that he still did not understand his territory well enough. He first sent away the servant who had delivered the message, then had the servant guarding the entrance summon Sir Cord.
"What is it, Baron?" Sir Cord had been taking inventory of the castle's property and was somewhat puzzled when Reiner suddenly summoned him.
"Hmm... It's like this. Old Raywinter sent me two silver coins and ten lambs today, hoping that I would 'baptize' his son's wife. I never knew about this before, so I want to know what other rights I have in my territory besides this baptism right, and what taxes are the residents required to pay?" Reiner asked.
"Ah, I see!" Sir Cord smiled, cleared his throat, and said, "Besides the baptism right, your residents also have to pay a childbirth tax, marriage tax, sickness tax, meal tax, head tax, and living tax!"
"These taxes make up the territory's annual income. The meal tax brings in the most. They help you farm, and most of the profits belong to you.
