Li Jing'an concealed his identity as a county constable in Qingyang County while investigating threats connected to the Wang Family and the Blood Refining Hall. Though publicly understated, he could identify Chu Ning's saber art, body-refining, archery training, and cultivation flaws at a glance; Lei Wanjun suspected that he belonged to the First Grade Pavilion. 13

He recruited Chu Ning into the Constabulary Camp and became his first major martial mentor. Li taught him the Chaos Origin Qi Refining Method, a cultivation method created by Li's master, and explained its principle of resonating the Qi Sea with heaven-and-earth vital energy. 14 15
