The Role of Family
Goodbye, Mr. Gepu!
Amidst farewells, Gepu saw off all the employees in the office. He began to count some ledgers, put them back in their proper places, left an inspection record, and then locked the safe and the office door before leaving.
This is one of his daily tasks. He doesn't actually need to do these tasks, but he does them anyway because he feels it's necessary. At least it ensures that if a problem arises, it can be quickly traced back to the specific time and the person involved.
The moment the lights went out in the empty room, the reserved smile of a "Group Partner" on his face vanished along with the light, replaced by restlessness and worry.
After a meeting with President Neo, he learned some more detailed internal information, which calmed him down a bit, but another emotion was brewing.
Actually, before leaving work, the president's secretary informed Gepu again, asking him to go to the office, as Neo wanted to see him.
After tidying up his clothes, Gepu saw Neo in the president's office. The president was very polite, gave him a solid color cigarette, and assigned him a task.
However, this task is not so easy to complete.
"You know, I had some unpleasantness with the mayor and the governor not long ago!" That's what President Neo said in his office at the time.
As a subordinate, Gepu could only nod and didn't really feel comfortable saying anything. Neo, however, smiled and continued, "So my application to move out of the state will definitely be met with difficulties. They will do everything they can to prevent us from moving smoothly, no matter what method they use!"
After saying this, President Neo paused for a moment before continuing, "Gepu, you are a very ambitious young man. I've heard that you often voluntarily work overtime overnight and are very cooperative with your colleagues. This is a good thing, and I believe you have also earned the reward of becoming Group Partner."
"What I need you to do next is give us all a chance to prove your worth. They will definitely come to audit the accounts, and you need to ensure that these books are accurate, or at least that even if some problems occur, they are not within your authority. Can you do that?"
Faced with such a question, what could Gepu do but nod? Even if he was actually a little guilty, he could only put on a brave face.
Neo then told him that if this problem could be solved, once they arrived at the new location, he would propose that Gepu become Senior Partner of the Group Company at the Board of Directors, and that Gap could attend Board of Directors.
This sentence didn't motivate Gepu as much as it had before, though he pretended to be very excited and eager, actively assuring him that he would definitely be able to fulfill President Neo's request.
The dim lighting in the underground parking garage made him feel inexplicably scared, and his hands were a little uncooperative. When he opened the car door, the car key fell to the ground, and when he tried to insert the key into the lock cylinder next to the steering wheel, it fell onto the floor mat.
He didn't know why he felt a strange panic, as if something was pounding wildly inside him, making him suddenly lose all his strength.
He suddenly erupted in emotion and slammed his fist on the steering wheel, as if venting his frustration.
But then a sudden horn blared, startling him! In the deathly quiet basement, the abrupt horn sound was so sudden that it made him shudder.
He slumped awkwardly over the steering wheel for a while before his outburst of emotions gradually subsided. Only then did he pick up the key, insert it into the lock, start the car, and slowly drive towards the exit.
In places like the headquarters of the Listoan Group, the parking lot security guards are naturally very familiar with every vehicle parked there. When the guards in the booth see Gepu's car coming in or out, they will raise the barrier without him having to stop.
But today was different. When his car reached the guardrail, the guardrail didn't rise. What surprised him even more was that the security guard, who had never left the guard post before, came out of the post.
He knocked on the car window, Gepu paused for a second or two before rolling down the tinted glass.
"Mr. Gepu?" The security guard glanced at the notebook he was holding, then looked at Gepu, as if trying to identify him.
This was a security guard I didn't recognize. Gepu nodded. "What can I do for you?"
The security guard made some notes in his notebook, or at least that's how it seemed from Gepu's perspective. He looked up, flashing a bright smile, and said, "No, sir, I was just getting familiar with my new job. I'm sorry to have taken up your time!"
His gaze swept quickly across the back seat of Gepu's car before he looked away. "I'll raise the railing now. Goodnight, Mr. Gepu!"
Gepu nodded, didn't roll up the window, and drove straight out of the underground parking lot.
Even at night, the sweltering summer heat was intense. The scorching wind made Gepu, who was driving, tear off his tie. He felt very irritable, and something peculiar made him restless for a moment.
Fear, panic, hatred, disgust, anger...
A surge of negative emotions made him sensitive and irritable, a condition that began after his private conversation with Neo.
In fact, he was well aware that this was the biggest crisis of his life. When a local government uses the National Power to do something, it is almost impossible for it not to succeed.
President Neo asked him to guarantee that these accounts were in order, and he was very likely to be able to do so. He could make the Group Company's accounts look perfect and without too many flaws, but he couldn't do other people's accounts.
This is a very simple principle. Suppose they sell one hundred items to another company, and there is nothing wrong with the accounts, but they cannot change the ledger of the company that entered the item.
Whether there are 100 items, how much each item costs, when they were entered, and who handled them can all be found out by checking with another company.
If they've all conspired together, then check their bank statements.
If individual account changes are fine, check the overall records. If the overall records are fine, check the time period. If the time period is fine, trace it back to the next level. As long as there is a problem in the ledger, it is almost certain that it will be found!
Previously, he was so confident that there were no problems with the accounts he handled. This was all based on the principle that Listoan was the pillar industry of Sabine City. The prevalence of local protectionism meant that even if the Listoan Group had some problems, they would not be a problem under the protection of local protectionism.
But once this most important outer shell is lost, many things will change.
The simplest reason is that no one would have thought that Heng Hui Group would suddenly collapse before it did. All of its department managers were among the most outstanding and excellent people in China and even internationally.
This included their financial professionals, one of whom even appeared in an early edition of a professional textbook.
Even so, they couldn't withstand the Federal system's investigation. Could Listoan withstand it? He didn't know. He only knew that he was very scared. He couldn't even concentrate on driving! It was past nine o'clock at night when Gepu finally drove home. After opening the door, he walked upstairs wearily, not interested in anything.
Vera, who was sitting on the sofa watching TV, glanced back at Gepu and asked with some surprise, "You got beaten up?"
Gepu had a noticeable bruise around his eye, and the second button on his collar, along with a small piece of fabric, was torn open. This was the first time he had ever looked so disheveled.
Even though Vera didn't want to talk to him, she couldn't help but ask that question.
Gepu chuckled, shook his head, and headed upstairs. Just as he was about to close his bedroom door, he retorted, "I wasn't beaten up, I got into a fight."
His tone carried a hint of pride, an inexplicable sense of self-esteem. Vera quickly turned her attention back to the television program. The fact that he could still argue with himself meant that Gepu's situation wasn't too bad.
Actually, he had a minor conflict with the car behind him while waiting at a traffic light. When the light turned green, he was still thinking about work when the car behind him started honking incessantly, interrupting his train of thought.
He poked his head out, somewhat annoyed and embarrassed, and shouted a few curses. He also made a gesture that everyone in the Federal knew, and then the honking of the car behind stopped.
Gepu would never have done anything so ill-mannered in the past, but today he suddenly couldn't help himself.
A shirtless man with a full beard opened the driver's side door and got out. Normally, Gepu would have already sped away.
But he wasn't in a good mood today, so he didn't do that. He chose to turn off the engine, and then...
Perhaps it was the Iron Fist reality that made him realize that there were many things he couldn't resist, and at the same time, he also understood that if something really went wrong, the first to suffer would be President Neo and the Board of Directors members.
He was just a poor accountant; he had no choice.
After being beaten, he seemed to feel much better. He stopped thinking about things he couldn't understand and even hummed a little tune while taking a shower.
After taking a shower Gepu went straight into the study in his pajamas. He opened the safe, looked at the copies that should have been disposed of, and hesitated.
Once the "work" begins to go through the process, leaving the items here might be dangerous. He hesitated between disposing of them or storing them somewhere else.
Besides these, there are other items in the safe that need to be moved, some of which are related to the company and some of which are not.
After making a list, he went into the Living Room, sat on the sofa, and looked at his wife.
The reason the management allowed him to alter the ledgers was because he had a stable family, a beautiful wife, and adorable children. Such a person would do his utmost to protect his family, even at the cost of sacrificing himself if necessary, to keep the secret.
"I need your help, Vera!"
