The Beast in the Dead of Night
"The warehouse was robbed?"
Noel looked very surprised; he had no idea about this at all.
Lin Qi brought Noel a glass of juice and poured himself some wine. "It's normal. Many people are on the verge of starvation, and they no longer care whether their actions are legal or not."
"This morning, the warehouse manager told me that they found a broken ventilation duct next to the warehouse we rented. We lost about several hundred yuan worth of items, which is not a good sign."
When Lin Qi spoke, his expression was very ordinary, and his tone did not show any change, just like a normal conversation.
"This time they succeeded. If we don't stop them, there will be a next time."
"If they succeed again next time, and we are unable to stop them, their desires will escalate, so we need to find them before they cause more destructive behavior."
Lin Qi raised his glass and clinked it against Noel's, who had just realized what was happening. As he brought the wine to his lips, he said, "You'll have to keep an eye on these things for me, and then find them."
Lin Qi originally wanted to ask Jack, the community driver, since such a person had connections and couldn't escape, but after thinking about it, he gave up.
When he left the City Hall building, the way the people in the square looked at him made him feel dangerous. These people were no longer ordinary protesters; they were turning into rioters.
What's even more frightening is that the Progressive Party and the Conservative Party are now responding to this matter in silence, and are even planning to push it into an even more terrible abyss, then destroy it and rebuild it from its ruins! Impeaching a president is not guaranteed to succeed, but impeaching a dictatorial tyrant who causes social unrest is almost guaranteed to be successful.
The Federal may be facing its darkest period in the coming months, and he needs to be prepared.
These kids from Noel run around the streets every day, handing out flyers or collecting information from various shops. They have access to everything in the city and are exceptionally well-informed.
More importantly, Lin Qi trusted these people. This confidence came from his status as "master." Without him, these people would suffer poverty. Only when he lived comfortably and well could these people enjoy life.
After hearing this, Noel looked indignant. To be honest, Lin Qi treated them better than the Newspaper Boss, or even the people at the Welfare Home.
They were not only given a very luxurious house to live in, with each person having their own room, but they were also given an adult salary without any deductions.
In the past, when they worked under the Newspaper Boss, they would only earn about one or two hundred yuan a year, and they also faced the danger of being discovered. Moreover, when the Newspaper Boss was drinking, he would randomly select a few of them to beat up.
But here, everything is just like in a dream, and neither Noel nor anyone else wants their current lives to change in the slightest.
"I understand, sir. What should I do if I find those people?"
Lin Qi sensed a murderous intent from Noel's face, a chilling glint in his eyes, and the syllables squeezed out of his throat, making it impossible not to think of that early morning.
Lin Qi remained calm. He placed his wine glass on the table and straightened Noel's slightly disheveled collar. "We are all civilized people. We can leave the fighting and killing to others. You need to understand that, Noel."
"Killing someone with your own hands is not a sign of courage and wisdom; it will only get you into trouble. You need to learn to use your strengths."
"The police, some gangsters, including judges and inmates, are all better than you and less likely to get you into trouble."
He withdrew his hand. "Find them, then tell me who they are, and I'll take care of the rest."
Noel nodded in agreement and left quickly. In less than half an hour, dozens of children began to use their "professional skills" to inquire about these matters.
Later that evening, an unexpected phone call came to Lin Qi; it was his mother calling.
This is an unavoidable question, because humans cannot be born out of thin air. The greatness of life lies in the process of creating life and the results of creating life, and Lin Qi is one of the results of a great miracle.
He hasn't been in contact with his family since graduating from high school. This is partly Bayer Federation, where children who don't intend to inherit the family business after graduating from high school will move out and live alone, if they do have a family business.
Secondly, his parents strongly opposed Lin Qi's choice at the time, namely that Lin Qi and Catherine were working while seeking opportunities to go to school. They believed that starting work immediately was the right choice, and that ordinary people should not have dreams, but should only live a down-to-earth life.
Young people can never understand what those with little education or high academic qualifications are saying. They only believe in themselves until they realize that there are some things that cannot be learned from books and in classrooms.
Because of these two incidents, they rarely contacted each other anymore, and coupled with their busy lives and work, their feelings quickly faded.
A survey on whether parents should be considered family members shocked the entire society. In the survey of most ordinary families who had started their own families and had their own children, they generally believed that their parents were family members, but not family members, because they did not live together.
This is the most real social phenomenon. At first, people were shocked, thinking it was a coldness of blood ties and kinship. But after the initial shock, they gradually realized that this was just the most common life for people.
After children grow up and leave home to start their own lives and families, their parents gradually leave their lives. Although they are family members, they are not family members. This is the norm in the Bayer Federation.
The same applies to Lin Qi; and in the future, when he has children and they become independent, he will also become a family member outside of his own family.
It sounds tragic and desolate, but everyone is like that.
The person making the call was his mother, who seemed to be more adept at easing the awkwardness between father and son that had long since disappeared.
"Your father lost his job, and we heard you've been doing quite well lately..."
His voice carried a hint of ingratiation, and there was no trace of the dominance and pressure that the two elderly people had once left on Lin Qi's memory.
Lin Qi picked up the phone, walked to the sofa, sat down, and poured some more wine. "Yes, I'm doing well now." He had taken over this body, enjoying its vitality and youth, and was therefore willing to take on some responsibilities.
To gain something, you must give something in return; anything gained without giving anything in return is always unreliable.
Hearing Lin Qi say this, the woman breathed a sigh of relief. "Perhaps you can help your father. He goes out to attend some gatherings every day and comes back later and later. I'm afraid something might happen to him."
Lin Qi's father was not yet fifty years old and was in his prime, which was also an important issue that made it difficult for them to live together. A family only needs one leader, not two.
The gatherings outside aren't discussing anything legitimate; most of them are talking about how to get more wages from their bosses. As for the lack of work, that's none of their business.
Or perhaps it's a form of mobilization; after all, one person making a mistake might be made an example of, but when many people make mistakes together, they deserve sympathy and forgiveness.
Lin Qi's mother felt that if things continued like this, her husband might become one of those featured on television, so she secretly called Lin Qi behind his back.
As Lin Qi sipped his wine, some unfamiliar memories were gradually awakened. His father had once wanted him to drop out of school and go to work instead of attending middle school.
Those years were the peak of the Federal economy; as long as you were willing to work and could bend down, you could pick up money.
It was obviously more realistic for Lin Qi to start working early to help support his family than to go to school, but Lin Qi refused, and he was beaten up for it.
Fortunately, there are Federal laws related to basic education. After finishing high school, he once again refused to accept the job his father arranged for him, which triggered this cold war that has lasted for more than two years.
Thinking of this, he pursed his lips and said, "I'll go back to see you tomorrow and we can talk about these things."
Over the phone, Lin Qi could sense that the woman's emotions had immediately calmed down considerably. "Thank God, that's great! When are you coming?"
Just then, some loud slogans suddenly drowned out their conversation. His mother was making the call from Phone Booth. This was the case for most ordinary families; they couldn't afford a private phone, but they could afford one from Phone Booth.
After waiting for almost a minute, the sound Tidal Wave, and Lin Qi gave a time: dinnertime. He then instructed the woman to go home as soon as possible, as it was getting dark and the outside world was becoming increasingly unsafe.
After hanging up the phone Lin Qi sat on the sofa and looked at the dark sky outside the floor-to-ceiling window. The city center was also dark, and the neon lights in many blocks were no longer flashing. At this moment, the Federal was darker than ever before.
Around 2 a. m. that night, Lin Qi was woken up again by a phone call. The caller was from the Community Service Company. They asked if Lin Qi was safe and if his room had been broken into, which made Lin Qi more sleepy.
"What happened?" he asked.
The voice on the phone sounded heavy. "A group of thugs attacked Hengtong Bank just now and used firearms. They were overwhelmed by the guards on duty, and some of them fled in our direction."
"But please rest assured, Mr. Lin Qi, all our security guards have begun patrolling. You can see them through the windows at any time. Also, we are very sorry to disturb your rest..."
After hanging up the phone, Lin Qi walked to the window. He was relieved to see that there were indeed many security guards patrolling the streets of the community.
He felt that some security measures should be increased.
=As mentioned in ① of the previous chapter, companies that hire employees with valid Gun License and allow them to carry firearms to work do not need to report this to the Department of Defense. If a company uses a company-issued Gun License, it needs to report to and obtain approval from local security agencies and the Department of Defense before allowing security personnel to carry firearms, and the nature of the license will also differ. The former remains a security measure, while the latter constitutes Private Armed Force and is subject to monitoring and control.
