Law-Abiding Conduct Is Every Citizen's Duty
Things developed much faster than expected. According to the case-handling procedure, from the whistleblower's report to the investigation and filing of the case, and then applying for various permits from the judge, there is a process that is unavoidable.
Sometimes, even if the police know that someone is a criminal, they have no choice but to watch them escape or destroy evidence, because everything must be done according to procedure.
This is a free Federal, where even criminals are free.
But what happened today has a different feel to it.
Gepu thought there was still a chance to salvage the situation. He had just left the Listoan Building and hadn't even driven to the end of the street when another car had a minor collision with his.
This kind of thing would happen frequently in Bu Peien, where fifty percent of the wealthy people in the Bayer Federation gather. The streets are filled with so many cars that people feel both fear and a strange sense of exhilaration.
But this is Sabine City, and there aren't so many cars that collisions are easily possible.
Gepu wasn't sure if his driving had caused the accident, because he was holding the steering wheel and thinking about other things. His attention wasn't fully on the road, and he didn't notice the car cutting in from the side.
The other party involved in the accident claimed that it was entirely caused by Gepu, who was simply driving normally.
If this had happened 24 hours earlier, Gepu would never have acted like a coward and tried to smooth things over. He wouldn't have given the other party a few dollars to fix their car; he would have called the police and had his lawyer deal with them.
Rather than paying lawyer fees that could exceed the compensation, the other party would certainly choose to shut up and disappear from his sight, leaving only a class-victorious smile on Gepu's face.
This time, however, he offered to pay, but to his surprise, the other party not only refused to accept the money he offered to compensate, but also called the police.
Because he called the police, Gepu couldn't leave; otherwise, he might have gotten himself into even bigger trouble.
After inspecting Gepu's vehicle and documents, the Mounted Police determined that there was something wrong with his driver's license and took him to the Police Station on that basis.
The moment he sat down with the police officers who had come to his aid, he realized that these people weren't necessarily there because of a problem with his driver's license; their reason for looking for him was related to his secretary.
This was a very interesting experience, one he had never had before.
My heart started racing, my blood pressure rose, I heard a hollow, windy sound in my head, and my attention became scattered and I had difficulty concentrating.
A sense of fear among ordinary people in the face of state machinery slowly grew and eventually became dominant.
Neo learned the whole story the moment Gepu was arrested. After cursing the bastard a few times, he set about having the chief legal counsel in the Legal Department department bail Gepu out.
Meanwhile, Neo had someone bring Gepu's direct supervisor to his office.
The finance manager carefully closed the door, his head slightly lowered. He dared not look at Neo, much less meet his gaze, but Neo did not let him off the hook.
"Raise your head, look me in the eyes, and tell me what that woman has that made the Investigation Team take action now!" He managed to maintain his composure in the first half of his statement, but the second half was already a roar.
He would certainly complain about the Investigation Team's abuse of power, even though it would only put some pressure on them and serve no other purpose. He also understood the Investigation Team's determination to catch Gepu.
They wouldn't let Gepu disappear; they believed Gepu might be the "key man" in the whole case, and they were so sure he was connected to that woman.
But his subordinates, including Gepu, lied about this, which made Neo feel that everything was getting out of control.
With less than two weeks until they leave Sabine City, just a little bit more away from completing all the handover procedures, they can finally get rid of the heavy burden of workers and start afresh in a new place. But at this moment, everything becomes dangerous.
An unplanned mistake ruined the Group Company and all his preparations. He disliked this feeling of being out of control, which made him feel like a weakling who couldn't even control his own destiny.
The Finance Department manager wiped the sweat from his forehead and temples in the dead of winter. Perhaps because the heating was set too high, he felt as if he were in a furnace.
Faced with the president's question, he didn't know how to answer.
Neo glared at the other person, and after a while, he suddenly breathed a sigh of relief. "You can say nothing. Actually, none of this matters to me."
"I've already cashed out a lot of my shares, so even if Listoan is ruined, I don't care. The ones who will really suffer are you, that little accountant, and everyone else involved in this."
"Tell me the whole truth before things get out of control, and maybe we'll still have a chance to turn things around. But if you just want to keep secrets that have already been exposed to the police, then I'll watch you and your shitty secrets fall into the abyss!"
Neo's sudden and drastic change in attitude made the department heads even more anxious. If the Group Company, no, if Neo and the shareholders really gave up all of this, everything they, the Middle Class, owned would be gone.
The police will deal with them without restraint, and they can't even resist.
The Finance Department head immediately revealed what had happened. Neo had initially thought it might just be some "minor matter" like forcibly exchanging bodily fluids with his secretary against her will, but he hadn't expected the situation to be so serious.
When he heard that they had even written some obviously degrading things on the girl's thigh, he was so angry that he laughed out loud!
"You even signed your names!" Neo felt he couldn't understand these people at all. They clearly had little power and not much wealth, yet they dared to do such a thing. Who gave them the guts? He knew there were some women in the company who were taking advantage of female employees, but he had never intervened or restrained them.
First of all, those girls weren't good girls in the first place—people aren't interested in older "women," it's the "girls" that interest men.
Secondly, this top-down sexual domination is also one of the underlying cultures of Grand Duke. It's not just Listoan; many companies have this situation, and people are used to it.
However, they shouldn't have gone too far, and they certainly shouldn't have failed to handle the aftermath properly.
After listening to what the department head had to say, Neo gave him a cold look. "Go buy a boat ticket immediately and 'flee' the country before the police start paying attention to you. Do you understand what I mean?"
The supervisor's body trembled slightly, and his expression was pained. "Is there no way to salvage this?"
Neo didn't answer the question, as if he hadn't heard it at all. "Do you need my help?"
The supervisor shook his head repeatedly, but Neo did not let him off the hook.
He made a phone call to a young male employee without a specific job title, explained his work for the next few days, and asked him to help his supervisor leave Bayer and escape the country as soon as possible.
This approach may seem silly, but it is very effective and direct.
The Investigation Team is now trying to get these people to talk by asking certain questions. Neo has already guessed what they're going to do next—nothing more than intimidate them.
But they made a mistake; they alerted him too early, so much so that he still had a chance to make amends.
The Investigation Team did not actually have direct evidence to prove that Listoan was involved in any possible criminal activities or illegal dealings; they were only targeting a few people within the company.
Who can guarantee that everyone in their company is a good person? Listoan is no exception. As long as these people abscond and the case cannot be solved in a short time, Listoan can still relocate smoothly.
Once they arrived at their new location, local protectionist policies were reinstated, and even with evidence in hand, the Investigation Team was unable to deal with Listoan.
With the support of local protectionist policies, they can drag these investigations out for ten, twenty years, or even forever, until the investigations themselves are terminated. What he needs to do now is to shut some people up before the police and Investigation Team take action.
Shortly afterward, two lawyers with considerable reputations in the Federal appeared at the Police Station to bail out Gepu.
Gepu is currently being held on bail on suspicion of forgery, a minor charge. His lawyers obtained permission from the court, and the Police Station had no choice but to grant him bail.
At this point, discussing bail is pointless, but it also demonstrates the sophistication of the Federal justice system, as everything proceeds smoothly and according to standard procedures.
Gepu had just walked out of the Police Station, looked back and suddenly felt strangely safe, even though the Police Station had frightened him not long ago.
The cars parked on the side of the road waiting for him gave him a feeling of unease.
"Get in the car, the CEO is waiting for you," a lawyer urged, glancing at his watch with a displeased expression. This insignificant little man had wasted too much of their time.
Gepu glanced at the two lawyers, noticing no other expression on their faces, and then, with a slight sense of unease, got into the car.
Twenty minutes later, Gepu met Neo in the president's office. Before he could say anything, Neo raised his hand to stop him.
"I'll tell you, listen!" Neo continued after exchanging glances with the other person, "I will arrange for you to leave the Federal immediately. Actually, you'll adapt to life abroad very quickly. Once this matter is over and resolved, I will arrange for you to come back, understand?"
Upon hearing this Gepu couldn't help but speak up, "Neo, the court has issued an injunction prohibiting me from leaving Sabine City. It's very difficult for me to leave here, and it's also very difficult for me to leave the Federal."
Neo couldn't help but laugh, a hint of embarrassment in his voice. "Did the law allow you to humiliate, harm, and enslave those girls?" He spread his hands. "They didn't allow you to do it, but you did it anyway, didn't you?"
"Now you're talking to me about legal prohibitions?"
