Money Was Nothing
Not long after, Lin Qi's appearance made Rui Ka understand how the High Priest in Nagaril knew the word "fund".
Unlike foreigners who settle in the area, Lin Qi did not feign compliance with local religious customs. He did not make a wishing gesture with his hands, wishing everyone happiness. He simply looked calmly and said "Hello."
Even with the High Priest, Lin Qi simply said "hello" as their usual greeting when they met.
He glanced at Rui Ka, Rui Ka lowered her head under Lin Qi's gaze. She was still somewhat afraid of Lin Qi; the pain of the broken bone was hard to forget so easily.
Rui Ka's retreat and bowing of his head prevented him from noticing that as he did so, the remaining hope in the High Priest's eyes also vanished, replaced by a sense of normalcy.
"You leave first. I have some things to discuss with Mr. Lin Qi," the High Priest said, looking at his most beloved youngest son, who bowed, spread his hands, and backed away.
He did not resist, because neither Lin Qi nor the High Priest in this room were beings he could contend with. He had neither the will to resist nor the ability to resist.
After watching Rui Ka, whom Lin Qi had mentioned, leave, the High Priest stood up and walked to a spot not far from Lin Qi. He couldn't sit cross-legged in front of this young man; that would be disrespectful to a powerful person.
Lin Qi may not be a "strongman" in the traditional sense, the kind of strongman with great physical strength, but he is the kind of strongman who possesses wealth and the power of wealth, making him stronger than a strongman who is merely physically strong.
Naturally, one should show him respect.
"This way, please. The air here isn't very good..." The High Priest invited Lin Qi past the room's furnishings and out through a small, inconspicuous door on the side of the back wall. Suddenly, everything became clear and bright.
The natural environment is comparable to that of the Provincial Governor's house, with tall, tropical trees standing in rows and a very clean path paved with small stones.
A refreshing breeze was invigorating, and both the Provincial Governor and the High Priest were people who knew how to enjoy life.
"Po Luorui Ka told me about his experiences in the Federal during this time. He didn't tell me everything; he hid some things, and I could tell. I hope you can tell me what else happened besides the very ordinary things he mentioned?"
As they walked, the High Priest first voiced his confusion.
He could see that his youngest son had gone through a huge growth process. As a father, he might think that his children didn't pay enough attention to him, but in fact, he always cared about his children, and his youngest son was the one he cared about the most.
He knew what a wicked child he was. From a young age, he had been a scoundrel because he was born into such a family. His father was the High Priest, and Rui Ka's status was higher than that of the Provincial Governor's sons. He could do whatever he wanted without any restraint.
He was no longer a virgin when he was fourteen. He enjoyed biting and torturing women and was unpredictable in his temper.
But that doesn't matter. He did well in his past life and was born into a good family. He became the High Priest's child in this life, so he deserves what he did.
People who believe in religion think this way, and they increasingly believe that as long as they can endure all the injustices they face now, they will have the opportunity to be born into families like those of High Priest or Provincial Governor in the future, enjoying the same rights and pleasures as those who inflict suffering on them today.
When Rui Ka returned from the Federal this time, he had changed. He had become much more composed and reserved, less flamboyant and unrestrained. He had finally become like a normal person.
This pleased the High Priest, but he was also very curious about what had caused such a huge change in the child.
This is a good change, especially since he will no longer be able to use his power to protect that child. Every bit of growth and progress he makes now will reduce his chances of encountering danger in the future.
He looked at Lin Qi seriously, "Even if there are some... I won't mind. I'm just curious about what made him grow up."
Lin Qi was not as hesitant or embarrassed to speak as the High Priest had imagined; he directly uttered a single word—pain.
"I broke his bones, High Priest, while he was conscious. Of course, I must have had my reasons for doing so."
"You know, the Federal is a society governed by the rule of law. What he considers normal here could land him in prison for life in the Federal. So I used pain to make him understand a principle."
"In the Federal, he's just an ordinary person, not anyone's child, and he has no special privileges!"
After listening, the High Priest nodded repeatedly, "Very good, you did a very good job. I am too old, and sometimes I am reluctant to do anything to these little things. You have filled this gap for me."
The High Priest face was covered in wrinkles and tattoos, looked somewhat kind and benevolent at the moment, but no one knew that he had recently personally ordered the Guardian God to kill those who had committed sins by destroying the temple.
So-called mercy, so-called soft-heartedness, are emotions that only arise when dealing with his own children.
What about other people's children?
That might just be wishful thinking.
"I have never been to school and do not have the qualifications you are talking about, but I know that people learn to walk and run through wrestling. The forms they take may be different, but the essence is the same, just like the truth."
"After Po Luorui Ka came back, she talked to me about some things. She wanted everyone in her family to settle in the Federal, and I received some things from certain places..."
He smiled. "Intelligence reports that my old adversary has already put his entire family on a cruise ship bound for the Federal, is that right?"
As they walked, the light grew stronger, and they were about to leave the grove.
The intense light outside the woods made it difficult for Lin Qi was in the darkness, to see clearly what lay behind the bright lights. He focused more on the High Priest. "Yes, I watched them board the ship."
"I also agreed to Po Luorui Ka's request. I decided to send my children to the Federal. They are not familiar with the environment there at all, and I am very worried that they will make mistakes."
"So..." the High Priest paused slightly, "I hope you can give them some help, discipline their behavior, and teach them how to be people who are fit to live in the Federal."
"At the same time, I also hope to ask you for a favor..."
"What?" Lin Qi asked.
"Help me set up a foundation. I'm worried that they will hate each other because of the money I have, and even do stupid things. I'm also afraid that they will encounter scammers and lose everything."
"You are the only person I can trust, Mr. Lin Qi. If you can help me, then all you need to do is ensure their livelihood."
As they were about to leave the woods, the High Priest stopped. He looked at Lin Qi, a glint of shrewdness shining in his cloudy eyes.
Actually, making this decision was not easy for him. Entrusting his life savings to someone he didn't know very well, and having his children controlled by that person, didn't seem like a smart choice at all.
But this was also a very clever choice. The High Priest had been mysterious and eccentric for many years. People only noticed his process of conveying certain thoughts on behalf of the gods, but forgot that his greatest ability in his life was actually to see people.
He had met so many people that he couldn't even count them all. Among them were the poor, the rich, the powerful, and the Lowly People. He had a deep understanding of human nature.
From Rui Ka's reluctance to mention his conflict with Lin Qi, to his bowing of his head in submission and concession when facing Lin Qi, the High Priest understood a principle.
If Lin Qi harbors any evil intentions, none of his children will escape. You must understand, they are currently in Nagaril, on his High Priest's territory. Even his most beloved children dare not defy Lin Qi's gaze. Once they arrive in the Federal, if these bastards grow tails, they will probably already be wagging their tails and begging for mercy.
Rather than letting them possess wealth unbecoming of their status and attracting malicious eye-catching glances, it would be better to use a portion of that wealth to secure a stable life for them.
If the High Priest lives for another ten years or so, he won't need to share any of the money he makes with Lin Qi.
This is a deal: exchanging the operating rights and equity of a foundation for a quiet and affluent life for his children.
"Why not?" Lin Qi agreed without much thought. "I will send them to school and hire someone to teach them the knowledge they need to live in the Federal. I will also do my best to resolve any trouble they cause within my capabilities!"
With this answer, the High Priest breathed a sigh of relief. He gestured forward, "Come with me, I'll show you something good..."
The two walked through the woods, crossed the boundary between light and shadow, and after their pupils quickly adjusted to the light, a golden mountain appeared before Lin Qi.
A mountain of gold, in every sense of the word, a small mountain made of Gold Bar and gold ingots, more than two meters high, with Gold Bar and gold ingots scattered all over the ground.
The High Priest stepped forward, picked up a piece, weighed it in his hand, and then tossed it to Lin Qi.
The shock in Lin Qi's heart quickly subsided. He casually caught the gold ingot that the High Priest threw to him and examined it carefully.
He soon discovered that the value of this small gold mine was not as great as he had imagined, because its content did not seem to be very high.
In some areas it is noticeably white, and in others it may appear purplish or reddish. These are not characteristics of pure gold. It contains too many other metals, so it seems more accurate to call it a gold alloy.
The High Priest stood before the mountain of gold, gazing at the glittering little golden objects, and sighed deeply, "This is all I've accumulated in my lifetime..."
"How much do you think they're worth?"
