The End and the New Mayor
"The Federal really know how to enjoy life!"
Standing atop the reinforced bus, the Hunting Squad Captain had Mixed Color Kolef from the Federal dangling from his mouth—the very cheap kind, no less.
Unlike Mixed Color- color Kolef, which is unsuitable for inhalation, this Mixed Color Kolef contains a significant proportion of tobacco, making Kolef suitable for inhalation and quite potent.
The manufacturers of these Kolef products have repeatedly stated that as long as the dosage of Kolef leaves and tobacco leaves is not exceeded, they will not cause much harm to the human body. However, every year a considerable number of people still die from Mixed Color caused by excessive use of Kolef products.
Even so, the sales of Mixed Color are still very high because they are very popular.
This kind of "power" is not like the "power" of alcohol, which makes people lose control of themselves. This kind of power only makes people feel a little dizzy and a little inexplicably happy, but it will not make them lose control of their bodies.
The whole world seems to be slowly spinning, people become excited, their breathing becomes slightly rapid, but there don't seem to be many other symptoms.
After Kolef was exported in large quantities to Nagaril, some of the local Privileged Class began to become addicted to this thing that could provide them with more pleasure.
Its power comes on quickly without affecting people's judgment of unexpected situations, which makes it particularly suitable for various hunting teams on the grasslands.
They forbade drinking alcohol because being drunk would render one unable to react effectively when wild animals attacked the camp, and similar incidents have occurred more than once in history.
A group of hunters got drunk one night and were wiped out by some wild animals, so Hunting Group are not allowed to bring alcoholic beverages after entering the grasslands.
The Mixed Color Kolef solved this problem that had been bothering people. It was easy to carry and had a strong power. You could carry a few and insert them into your ammunition belt, light them when needed, take a few puffs, then turn them off and put them back in. It was very popular among hunters.
The Hunting Group that had been summoned back was already close to the edge of the city; they were one of the backup plans to resolve the chaos.
Ironically, the Nagaril United Kingdom does not actually have a large-scale, organized army. It did have one in the past, but in those relatively backward and barbaric times, the struggle between political and religious power required bloodshed and sacrifice. Even then, the army was more like a clan army.
They only obeyed the Provincial Governor of various regions, and they were all sons or servants of the clans to which the Provincial Governor belonged. Later, with the development of society, this kind of private army gradually disappeared from the stage.
The Central Government, which is the royal family, has taken control of all military forces. Mobilizing this part of the army requires the royal family's consent, which makes the provincial Provincial Governor very unfriendly to the "military".
They preferred to mobilize their private soldiers or Hunting Group rather than the army. This involved a lot of power distribution issues, which was also the main reason why the Provincial Governor sent the Hunting Group back to resolve the unrest.
The Hunting Group encountered a mob as soon as they entered the edge of the city. The Captain, who was sitting on the roof of the vehicle with Mixed Color Kolef dangling from his mouth, picked up his weapon, skillfully checked the bullets, released the safety, turned his head to look at the person next to him, and asked with the Kolef Cigarette Holder dangling from his mouth, "Have you ever hunted people before?"
His assistant was stunned for a moment, and the next second, a gunshot rang out.
Inside, a boy, about fifteen or sixteen years old, was holding a stone in his hand and had a look of madness and hatred on his face. He was about to throw the stone at the convoy when a bullet blew off half of his cheek. He flew backward two or three meters and rolled twice on the ground before finally coming to a stop.
Blood quickly spread from his wound, staining a large area of land red.
The hunting rifles are incredibly powerful. These guns are designed to deal with ferocious beasts, the weakest of which are stronger than humans. The bullets that can kill them can kill humans with ease.
The mob that had been blocking the road, seemingly planning to rob the convoy, suddenly erupted into chaos. Some fled, while others threw stones and whatever they could find on the roadside at the convoy.
These attacks are too weak. The Captain laughed maniacally, and as he laughed, he instinctively raised his gun, aimed, and pulled the trigger.
They spent their days killing, going from initial discomfort to adapting to this life, to becoming interested in it, until finally becoming numb.
Shooting has become an instinct second only to breathing.
Every time the trigger is pulled, every shot is fired, a life is lost. Without a clear objective understanding, they have become the masters of their own lives.
Some people even wonder if the feeling of killing someone is the same as killing animals.
Some people have always had this question, some have already verified it, and for those who haven't, now is a great opportunity.
The gunshot seemed to herald a bloody prelude. The hunters in the vehicles behind, armed with modern weapons, began searching for their targets and firing freely. Every bullet took a life, just as they had done on the grasslands.
There was no sense of moral guilt, no so-called horror of killing one's own kind; after an extremely brief period of excitement, there was only a pale numbness.
"Go back to your own houses! If I see you on the street again, you'll be no different from those rotting corpses on the roadside!" The Hunting Squad roared past, leaving behind a trail of carcasses, but also clearly conveying a message: people should return to their homes.
This method of suppressing unrest was better than preaching. People did not raise any protests, much less, like the Federal citizens, who would go to the gun to prove their freedom.
Although people all want to be born into a good family and have an indifferent attitude towards life, no one really wants to die.
Those who truly wanted to die would have died long ago; those who have survived until now are those who didn't want to die.
The Hunting Squad stormed into the city from multiple routes. Wherever there were rioters, there were Hunting Squad. They were like hunters roaming the city bushes, hunting down any human who did not follow the rules.
In just one day, by evening, the unrest that had lasted for nearly two weeks had been largely quelled.
In open spaces, under the guns of hunters, some conscripted Lowly People were carrying corpses and throwing them onto piles of firewood, which were to be burned.
Even at the end of October, the air in Nagaril remains hot and humid, an environment ideal for bacterial growth.
With so many people dying at once, if not handled properly, there is a possibility of an epidemic breaking out in the city.
The rioters who were so arrogant before the Hunting Squad entered the city have now reverted to their former selves: cowardly and timid, not even daring to lift their heads when they walk.
As a crudely made Incendiary Bomb spun through the air and was tossed into a pile of firewood, flames instantly spread, and a raging inferno rose up, burning away all ugliness and sin.
"The air won't smell too good these days..." In the exquisite room, various wines and delicacies were still laid out on the table, and a band was playing soothing music. Everything was so beautiful.
Lin Qi shook his head and said, "But the good news is that everything will go relatively smoothly from now on."
"We have no competitors, and we have a firm grip on the market. But I must also tell you, don't think that just because we don't have more competitors, we can control the market. That's not allowed."
"The friendship between the Federal and Nagaril will last forever (it will stand the test of time and will not fade no matter how long it goes on), and we should abide by some of the laws that exist in the Federal, even though they are not explicitly recognized as existing and valid here."
There were many Federal businessmen around Lin Qi, who had been living in fear all this time, and they were all terrified, especially today.
The gunfire outside almost made them think that the mob had launched a coup, until the gunfire subsided and they realized that the turmoil was over.
This also gave them a... absurd feeling, because in the Federal, if a similar riot occurred, the militia would at most be responsible for maintaining order, not for shooting those who started the riot.
But here, the best way to resolve the unrest is to deal with those who started it, which is frightening, as things are spiraling out of their understanding and control of reality.
Lin Qi became an important support for them in their work and life here.
"Next, we will be making new plans for the city. Here I must mention the mayor and his family who were attacked and killed by mobs during the unrest, which made us realize the importance of peace."
Lin Qi suddenly turned around and waved to the Police Chief, who seemed to be part of the background. The chief looked somewhat bewildered, but still straightened his clothes and belt, strode over to Lin Qi, and bowed slightly. "Mr. Lin Qi, is there anything I can do for you?"
Lin Qi shook his head, smiled, gently grasped the Police Chief's arm, and looked at the others, "There are aspects that sadden us, but there are also aspects that uplift us."
"The Police Chief performed exceptionally well during this unrest. After discussing it with the governor of Provincial Governor Drag, we decided to promote Police Chief to mayor of the city. I believe he will be able to do a great job in this new position."
He finished speaking, smiled, and extended his hand, "Congratulations, new mayor."
The smile on his face was subtle. He already knew the truth. In fact, given Lin Qi's intelligence and his understanding of the situation, he could easily guess the general answer.
Recommending the Police Chief for promotion is a good choice; he's a smart guy and very obedient, which is very important.
After a brief moment of disbelief, the Police Chief's eyes flashed with disbelief. He acted dramatically, gripping Lin Qi's hands tightly and bowing his head, "I will certainly not let down Mr. Lin Qi, and everyone's expectations and affirmation of me..."
