George's Encounter (3)
Upon hearing this, George's face immediately turned panicked. He quickly lowered his voice and said cautiously, "Of course there are, but those rebels... most of them no longer exist."
"You should know about the infamous ' Nocturne ' unit, right? They are the kingdom's most terrifying blade. Once they set their sights on someone, almost no one can escape."
"It is said that those nobles of the past..."
He looked around and then touched his neck.
Olivia couldn't help but snort coldly, "As expected of a brutal and evil regime, it persecutes the resisters with the cruelest means, and at times like these it reveals its bloody true colors."
Perhaps because of Angel the Golden Dragon Anher, or perhaps because of the Silver Dragon's innate hostility towards the Red Dragon, Olivia always harbored a prejudice against this country that she herself was unaware of.
"Yes."
George echoed in a low voice.
But Olivia didn't notice that the cautious, former serf was breathing rapidly, his voice was trembling, and sweat was beading on his forehead.
George lowered his head, his mind filled with a multitude of thoughts, including many familiar slogans.
They lure people with promises of profit.
An identity that is concealed and deliberately hidden.
Gathering intelligence and deliberately instigating rebellion against the kingdom.
Isn't this the kind of standard enemy spy found in the 《Kingdom Daily News》? He then thought of those tempting rewards: fifty Gold Coin, a downtown residence, a precious Dragon Vein Potion ...
"This is a spy!"
His breathing became more rapid, and his heart pounded.
In George's eyes, what was in front of him was not a living person, but a pile of gleaming Gold Coin, or even a shortcut that could completely change his fate!
His emotions grew increasingly agitated; he was breathing heavily, and even his eyes became unfocused as he began to imagine the wonderful life he would have after receiving the bounty.
"I want to find a woman, have a child with her, and live together as a family in a beautiful house in the center of North Wind Fortress."
"Then, I'm going to use the Gold Coin to buy a brand new shop, sell flowers there, and make money just by sitting here every day."
"I will send our child to the best school, where teachers will teach him to read and write. He may become a respected Scribe Officer, or even one of those important figures who manage the city..."
"When I visit my former coworkers again, they'll definitely look at me with envy and try to curry favor with me. Howard is a bit annoying, but he's been nice to me. I can give him a chance to work at my shop..."
Olivia also noticed his unusual behavior and asked with some confusion:
Are you alright?
George was jolted awake from his pleasant daydream. He trembled and replied nervously, "Ah, ah, I'm fine."
"Of course it's okay."
Olivia assumed that the human in front of her was afraid of the kingdom's power and feared being implicated. Little did she know that she had become a walking Gold Coin in his eyes.
Thinking of this, she gently comforted her, "Don't be afraid, none of this concerns you. I'm just here to ask a few questions. Just relax, those dragons' minions won't know anything about this."
"Phew, that's perfect."
George echoed, wiping the sweat from his brow and feigning a look of relief.
But he gritted his teeth and thought to himself, "I absolutely cannot miss this opportunity to change my destiny!"
Olivia paid no attention to the reactions of the humans in front of her; she only felt sympathy for these people who were trapped under the rule of the Red Dragon and lived in constant fear.
She continued, "Are there any surviving rebels? Where are they being held?"
George shook his head repeatedly, feigning composure as he replied, "It is said that there is a vast dungeon in the kingdom called ' Talmor,' where all those who dare to oppose the kingdom's order are either imprisoned or executed."
"But no one knows where the dungeon is, and no one has ever escaped from it. Perhaps only those high-ranking people know, like Mr. Lang Pu."
Thank you.
Olivia nodded slightly.
The human in front of her was just an ordinary worker with no access to high-level intelligence, and what she wanted to know was all hearsay. But Olivia already had a basic understanding of the country.
Olivia turned and walked away, disappearing deeper into the alley.
"Anher, I will find what you left behind."
Your sacrifice will never be in vain.
That's what she thought.
Beneath the hood, in those mercury-blue and white eyes, Olivia's gaze grew even more resolute.
This country was far less evil than she had imagined, at least not on the surface, but behind it lurked a far more terrifying monster that had already revealed its hideous claws.
The Embers of the Burned Kingdom is operating and expanding at an unprecedented pace. And once the Red Dragon awakens from its slumber, it may bring even greater calamity to Anzeta.
Silver Dragon needs more information to fully see the true face of the Red Dragon hidden behind the kingdom, thus fulfilling Anher's last wish.
George turned and left, looking somewhat awkward.
The worker, whose acting skills were not very good, walked stiffly at first, and was so nervous that he made several mistakes in his footing, but fortunately, the other party had already stopped paying attention to him and did not notice anything unusual.
George cautiously turned his head back after walking a distance.
"Has he... has he left?"
After discovering that the mysterious person had finally disappeared, he first jogged along the alley, and then simply stopped caring and started running wildly.
Finally, he ran all the way to the street, followed the steps he had heard in the newspaper, untied the bounty poster on the roadside sign, and placed his palm on the Blood-red Rune.
Throughout the process, he was trembling violently. A complex mix of tension and excitement filled George's mind. He was terrified of being discovered and silenced by the mysterious spy, yet he was also incredibly excited to receive a generous reward.
"I've found the spy!"
George said, panting.
There seemed to be a faint glow flickering on the rune.
With the sound of flapping wings, several bats flew through the air, while rats scurried about on the ground.
George felt a chill run down his spine, and his heart began to pound violently again, driven by an instinctive fear of death.
Suddenly, a pale, lifeless hand appeared silently on his shoulder; its touch was icy cold, almost like that of a corpse. At the same time, a chilling voice came from behind him.
"You said you found something."
George broke out in a cold sweat and stiffly turned around.
When he saw the scene before him, his pupils dilated and his eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
Before me stood a pale-faced man with delicate features and a slender build. His pupils were blood-red, and his slightly protruding canines were exceptionally sharp.
He wore a pure black tailcoat and a dark red cloak, with a blood-red emblem of a dagger and a violin crossed on his chest—this was the legendary "Nocturne," a special force that only appeared in the shadows, a force that could make everyone in the kingdom tremble.
George unconsciously swallowed, and then stammered, "I... I found a spy."
