Fine rain wove a gray curtain through the air, blurring the outlines of the academy spires in the distance. Ivette used Wind Magic to create a rain shelter overhead, and such extravagant use of magic drew countless sidelong glances from those around them. Lucia dragged a large suitcase behind Ivette, with a one-star gold adventurer badge pinned to her chest.

That gold adventurer badge was her greatest gain of the summer. Back when her father Aimon had still been in the village, what he had been proudest of was having once been a gold-ranked adventurer. Yet less than a year after leaving home, Lucia had already achieved the same feat. Whenever she walked down the street, the corners of her lips could not help but curl into a small, smug smile.
