Lucia was abandoned outside Sanglun Village as a naked infant with no identifying token. She was found and raised by Emon Sterling, a blacksmith, former adventurer, magic swordsman, and village militia captain. Her vivid red hair fading to purple led villagers to speculate that she had Hellman Imperial ancestry, though her true parentage remained unknown. 193 208

At age nine, Lucia earned small amounts of money by gathering wild asters near the Silverthread River. There she found Ivette Lochvia asleep in a flower field and risked herself to drag the apparent stranger away from a pack of wild dogs. She brought Ivette to Sanglun, helped her settle into an unused warehouse, and began caring for the supposedly amnesiac outsider. 192 193

Lucia learned swordsmanship from Emon and developed exceptional natural magical aptitude. When Emon refused to let her sit the Academy of Truth entrance examination, she asked Ivette to train her. Though she declined to become Ivette’s formal disciple out of concern that it would change their friendship, she trained with Ivette for two years. 200 201
