The power of the planetary shield could envelop the entire Empire—there seemed to be a bit of ambiguity in that statement.

After all, as the planetary shield, the Imperial Capital should theoretically be capable of covering the entire planet with its power.

Did a mere Empire really need to build so many floating cities—at least two hundred of them—as relay points to spread its coverage across the whole territory?

In truth, they were not talking about the same thing at all.

As the Planetary Shield Generator, the Imperial Capital's function was to use an aether force field to alter the planet's magnetic field and atmosphere, creating a special psychic field that could encircle the globe.

This field could block most harmful cosmic radiation, as well as energy attacks beyond a certain limit. Physical munitions such as comets, meteorites, or orbital bombardments would likewise be burned away and ground down by this layer of force field.

This power had already spread throughout all of Terra. Even during the Lost Epoch, after the shelter descendants of that era defeated the Heavenly Ladder Tree of Life, they used its power to improve the planetary shield, allowing it to alter Terra's atmosphere, bring aerial ecosystems into being, and enable the climate and surface ecology to recover at high speed.

This was the so-called "Planetary Ecological Shield."

But clearly, the shield the Landkeeper wanted was not this broad, generalized shield that merely protected the ecosystem.

What he wanted was a "planetary shield" in the literal sense.

A shield that directly used some powerful psychic field to create a force field capable of blocking attacks from other Ascenders.

Such a shield was obviously rather difficult to create.
