The Immortal Gate is a naturally existing, unlocatable entity that is said to exist outside ordinary time: neither fate nor karma can touch it, and it is described as unborn, undying, undestroyed, and incapable of increase, decrease, defilement, or purification. Cultivators who reach the necessary threshold may open it, undergo an immortal transformation, and normally lose all access to it once the process ends 700.

Every cultivator who condenses an Immortal Principle receives an Immortal Gate Projection. This projection functions as an unalterable lifelong mark, preserving the cultivator's immortal path, destiny, fate, and original imprint; it vanishes only upon their complete death 973. Further breakthroughs after reaching the Human Immortal Realm likewise summon projections, though these cannot ordinarily be retained 833.

The gate is considered an absolute taboo due to the fate of the Lord of Myriad Immortals. Seeking to make an Immortal Gate the symbol of his Myriad Immortal Dynasty, he used thirty-six thousand Great Emperor chains to forcibly lock and refine one. A single tremor from the gate shattered the chains, collapsed his Dao, and erased his immortal soul, true spirit, avatars, fate, and karma. The resulting backlash implicated more than seven thousand Immortal Sovereigns 700.

Li Yun first senses the gate after the Myriad Phenomena Immortal Law repeatedly impacts his divine soul and Mysterious Gate Dao Seed 667. Following his Immortal Soul Tribulation, his manifestation violates the normal pattern by remaining open inside his Mysterious Gate Dao Embryo, where it continuously strengthens his immortal soul, Great Dao Rivers, and body 700.
