"Tony Stark!"
Nick Fury flew into a rage. He was naturally a deeply calculating man, but even a wily old fox like him nearly exploded at Tony's words.
It wasn't because Tony had such a venomous tongue, but because he had spoken the truth. Lies didn't hurt people; the truth did.
Black Widow couldn't help sighing, her eyes full of confusion. She had joined S.H.I.E.L.D. because she wanted to be a good person, but the sorry state of things now made her seriously question her choice.
Hawkeye squeezed Black Widow's hand to comfort her. She smiled at him without saying anything, but warmth filled her heart. Whatever else had happened, she had still gained something at S.H.I.E.L.D.: a friend who would face life and death with her, someone she could trust to watch her back.
"Coulson, right? Could you teach me how to get online? I want to look at all that dirt on the internet."
Having heard Nick Fury and Tony's conversation, Captain America quietly asked Coulson the question. Coulson immediately went pale with alarm. How could they possibly let Captain America see all that dirt?
In Coulson's mind, Captain America was perfection incarnate, a righteous man of God. If he learned about the bad things S.H.I.E.L.D. had done, he would certainly refuse to stay, even if Ms. Carter had founded it. Oh, right-Ms. Carter had just been whisked away, too.
Coulson wasn't the only one panicking. Nick Fury was anxious as well. "Tony, it isn't safe for you to go alone. Our enemies have joined forces, after all. Captain, Natasha, Hawkeye, go with Tony. It'll be safer that way."
"No problem."
Natasha knew what Nick Fury was worried about and immediately nodded. Captain America never shied away from a fight, so he set aside his doubts about S.H.I.E.L.D.
