Seeing the situation turn against them, the military unsurprisingly tried to push their "unsold stock" of nuclear missiles again. President Ellis rejected the proposal on the spot, ordering the military and the agents to keep the monsters occupied until the superheroes returned to help.
Ultimately, the superheroes managed to kill every invader, but nobody was happy. After the monsters died, their bodies dissolved into bloody liquid that contaminated the environment, rendering the surrounding areas uninhabitable.
"These monsters came to probe our defenses and contaminate our world."
Looking down at the vast, contaminated blue area below, Tony said grimly, "We need to figure out where they came from and deal with the Mastermind as soon as possible. Otherwise, we're in for serious trouble."

Carter asked gravely, "You mean this wave of attacks was only the beginning?"
"That's right. Just the beginning."
Tony nodded with absolute certainty. Everyone, civilians included, immediately burst into curses. They had thought it was over, only to discover it had barely begun. Clearly, this was another world-ending disaster.
These days, anything short of a world-ending disaster would be too embarrassed to
