"He was just a bit carefree. He meant no harm."
Jean said. In truth, she did not dislike Wolverine that much. Otherwise, he would not have shamelessly kept pestering her.
Of course, Jean had no intention of cheating. As they said in the movies, girls liked playing with dangerous men, but they would never take them home.
Professor Charles thought for a moment and said, "Erik may cause trouble soon. Jean, have Scott come guard this place. As for Mutants turning back into ordinary people, there's no need to investigate it further."
"Mm."
Though Jean did not understand, she still nodded. At that moment, a thought surfaced in her mind, and she said, "I'll come over too."
Professor Charles assumed Jean merely wanted to avoid Wolverine, so he did not refuse. Right now, he only hoped Magneto would not make too much trouble. Mutants could not withstand any more turmoil.
A few days later, at night in Times Square, Cyclops Scott, wearing sunglasses, glared unhappily at Wolverine Logan. This had nothing to do with him, yet he had volunteered to come along. Anyone could see what he was after.
Logan laughed heartily. "Scott, I was afraid you'd be lonely, so I came to keep you company. No need to thank me. Oh, and your motorcycle's great. I had a blast riding it, so I won't be returning it just yet."
"Trying to steal my woman and riding my motorcycle?"
Scott was so furious he nearly blasted Logan to death with his optic beams. He snorted coldly. "If you stayed farther away from me, I really would thank you."
Logan acted as if he had not heard him and asked Jean, "Jean, lately I've been dreaming about a dam every night. It should be part of my old memories. Can you use Psychic Power to help me?"
Jean was proficient in both Telekinesis and Psychic Power. She could be considered Professor Charles's student.
Jean said, "Your memories are too vague. Even the Professor can't do anything about them, much less me."
Logan refused to give up and kept asking Jean to help him. Scott grew increasingly irritated, but in order to maintain his composure, he did nothing to Wolverine.
While Scott and Logan fought over Jean, Coulson led a group of agents stationed elsewhere in Times Square.
"Given Magneto's personality, he'll definitely make trouble. Don't let your guard down. Also, throw away every metal object on you. Leave nothing behind."
Coulson said, "The Science and Technology Department has developed a Freeze Gun with no metal on it. It's perfect for dealing with Magneto."
The Freeze Gun did not actually freeze people. It was loaded with Cobra Venom, and one shot could knock someone unconscious.
"Yes."
Everyone nodded. Coulson looked out the window with a slight frown. If Magneto truly came to cause trouble, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strength would not be enough.
Coulson sighed inwardly. If only Mr. Wang were willing to join S.H.I.E.L.D. Unfortunately, he has a huge prejudice against us. S.H.I.E.L.D. does bear sins, but we have always protected this world.
The world-famous Statue of Liberty stood on Ellis Island off the coast of Manhattan. That night, the Brotherhood's Mutants knocked out the guards on duty and gathered beneath the statue, their eyes filled with excitement and anticipation.
At the statue's torch, Magneto and Mystique stood side by side, gazing across at the brightly lit Manhattan in the distance.
"Tonight, Manhattan will be reborn."
Magneto smiled faintly and turned to ask Mystique, "Has Tony Stark arrived?"
"Almost."
Mystique said, "I called him while disguised as Pepper and told him to meet me at the Statue of Liberty. Given his relationship with Pepper, he'll definitely come.
"The real Pepper is in a car. I had someone tamper with it, so Iron Man can't contact her."
Before Mystique had finished speaking, wild music sounded in the distance. Immediately afterward, an Iron Suit figure streaked over from afar at high speed, trailing blazing light.
"Why would Pepper ask me to come here?"
Tony was somewhat puzzled. At that moment, Jarvis suddenly warned, "Enemy Number Two has been detected on the Statue of Liberty. Retreat immediately."
Enemy Number Two was Magneto. Tony was arrogant, but he was not stupid. He knew perfectly well what would happen if he encountered Magneto. As for Enemy Number One, that was naturally the powerful Ghost Rider who also loved stealing the spotlight.
Tony's expression changed, and he immediately prepared to stop. At that moment, Magneto raised his hand, and the Iron Suit flew uncontrollably toward the Statue of Liberty.
Tony tried to control the suit and fire missiles, but he could not even open the launch ports. The entire suit was enveloped by Magneto's magnetic force. In fact, forget firing missiles—Tony could not even call for help.
Then Magneto gave his right hand a slight shake. The screws on the suit began spinning rapidly. Before long, the whole suit came apart and floated neatly in the air, while Tony crashed onto the platform with a bang.
Magneto said with utter disdain, "This is the god they worship. Without his suit, he is nothing."
Though defeated, Tony refused to lose face. He sneered. "At least I'm not like someone who got beaten up in public."
Magneto's face darkened slightly. With a wave of his hand, Tony slammed into the wall with a bang and let out a scream.
Tony gritted his teeth. He swore that he would develop an Anti-Magneto Suit. Then he would imitate that kid and beat Magneto up in the streets—brutally.
Thinking of something, Tony hurriedly asked, "Where's Pepper? What did you do to Pepper?"
"Don't worry. She isn't here."
Magneto said, "Do you know why I invited you here?"
Tony breathed a sigh of relief, then snorted. "So this is what you call an invitation. I've learned something. Next time, I'll invite you over to my place."
"I brought you here for two reasons. One is for the Iron Suit, and the other is to hang you from the Statue of Liberty for display."
Magneto said, "I want the whole world to know that mortals cannot contend with gods. You are an outstanding specimen among mortals, so you are perfect for the role."
"Hang me from the Statue of Liberty?"
Tony was dumbfounded. He hurriedly said, "Magneto, we can talk this out. Absolutely not that."
Tony feared neither heaven nor earth, but he feared humiliation. If he were truly hung from the Statue of Liberty for display, he would never be able to show his face again.
"What right do you have to negotiate with me?"
Magneto smiled contemptuously and made a grabbing motion through the air. The Arc Reactor in Tony's chest flew out and landed in his hand.
Tony collapsed to the ground in agony. There was shrapnel in his blood. Without the Arc Reactor, the shrapnel would soon enter his heart and kill him.
As Magneto reassembled the suit, he said to Tony, "Tony Stark, hand over control of the suit, and I'll spare your life."
Tony did not want to die, so he chose to compromise. He unlocked the Mark Suit and allowed anyone to use it.
Naturally, Magneto and Mystique did not completely trust Tony. Mystique connected a laptop to the Mark Suit and used its software to quickly modify the program—the software had been designed by other hackers, and the Brotherhood had no shortage of talent.
"Done."
A moment later, Mystique nodded at Magneto. Magneto raised a finger, and the shrapnel in Tony's blood flew out of his body with spurts of Blood Mist.
Magneto said, "What you humans are utterly powerless to do is nothing more than a flick of my finger."
Tony lay on the ground, gasping for breath as he said, "Thanks for curing me. By the way, what's your account number? I'll transfer you the money."
Magneto snorted. Iron wires on the ground flew up and bound Tony, then carried him to the top of the Statue of Liberty and hung him from the edge of its crown.
Humiliated and enraged, Tony shouted into the cold wind, "Magneto, I will never let you get away with this!"
