"Hal, when will you stop being so damn annoying? What's the point of you even being alive?"
Hal sighed and gazed up at the sky, thinking how wonderful it would be if a meteor fell and crushed him to death. That way, Earth could save some precious food.
Just then, something suddenly plummeted from the sky toward Hal.
"Fuck, an actual meteor? I wish for beautiful women to chase after me every day. Why does that never come true?"
Alarmed, Hal hurried out of the way. To his surprise, what fell from the sky wasn't a meteor, but an alien spaceship that seemed to be somewhat out of control.
Soon, the spaceship crashed onto the beach, throwing up a huge cloud of sand. Hal cautiously peered at it from behind a large rock and spotted a red-skinned alien in green clothing inside.
The alien was gravely wounded. He barely managed to raise his left hand and said to the energy ring on it, "I'm not going to make it. Go find a suitable successor."
A ball of green light shone from the ring, then flew toward Hal.
"I hope there's still time."
The alien was praying when the green light flew back with a struggling Hal wrapped inside it. Then the light vanished, and Hal dropped onto the beach with a thud.
"Wasn't that a little too fast? Green Lantern Ring, are you actually taking this selection seriously?"
The alien grumbled. Hal got to his feet, noticed how badly wounded the alien was, and hesitated before walking over. "How can I save you? Hang on a little longer. You'll be okay."
