Wildlife Rescue Station,
"Awoo~"
Cola, having evolved into a Condensing Wind Hound, lay at Chen Yuan's feet, his tail wagging furiously. From time to time, he shot Spark a sidelong glance, his face full of smug satisfaction.
"Chirp."
Spark gave Cola an expressionless look, yet an inexplicable sense of urgency arose within her.
Something's not right, something's not right!
Chen Yuan paid no attention to the two little ones' interaction and silently analyzed Cola's data panel.
"Condensing Wind Hound, Wind attribute. The only skill currently mastered is Wind Blade, and its quality is Ordinary."
"The power of this Wind Blade probably isn't much."
Chen Yuan recalled the scene of Spark spewing sparks yesterday and did not think highly of Wind Blade at its current proficiency.
Still, to verify his guess, Chen Yuan brought the two little ones into the yard.
"Use Wind Blade on that tree." Chen Yuan pointed at the Camphor Tree dozens of meters tall directly ahead.
"Awoo!"
Cola answered energetically. His round eyes locked onto the front, his tail swayed from side to side, and a faint breeze abruptly rose around him.
The next moment, a tangible Wind Blade formed to Cola's left. Like a transparent crescent moon, it spun as it shot forward!
This might work!
Chen Yuan's eyes lit up at the sight, and a trace of anticipation rose in his heart.
In almost an instant, the Wind Blade drew closer and closer to the tree, about to strike it.
At that moment, Cola's eyes were full of expectation. He could practically imagine his master praising him.
Yet the next second, the Wind Blade whistled past the trunk and dissipated into the air.
Cola's expression froze.
"Chirp chirp chirp!"
Spark, whose nerves had been taut, suddenly burst out laughing, her body trembling with each chirp.
"Awoo..."
Cola first shot Spark a vicious glare. Then he looked up at Chen Yuan, whose lips were faintly pursed. His heart trembled, and he lowered his head with a sorrowful whimper.
I really did disappoint Master after all.
"It's okay. You're already amazing." The next moment, Chen Yuan's gentle voice sounded beside him. Cola abruptly raised his head and looked at the smiling face before him.
"You managed to use Wind Blade successfully on your first try. You're already very smart."
"We don't need to pursue anything else right now. As long as you can use it successfully and hit the target as often as possible, that's enough."
Cola's rapidly changing expression was reflected in Chen Yuan's eyes as his clear voice continued. "Cola, let's keep working hard."
"Awoo awoo awoo!"
Cola suddenly pounced on Chen Yuan, and his enormous weight nearly made Chen Yuan fall backward.
Chen Yuan steadied himself and let Cola place his front paws on his shoulders, his tongue licking Chen Yuan's cheeks.
He pulled a tissue from his pocket and wiped away Cola's saliva expressionlessly, staring at the dog's head. "Anyway, training starts now."
"Awoo!" Cola responded.
"And you too, Spark." Chen Yuan tilted his head slightly upward, looking at the orange-yellow figure flying in midair.
The corners of his lips lifted slightly. "Let's work hard together."
The sun was setting in the west.
Three figures walked along the road home, their shadows stretching long beneath the evening sun as crisp birdsong rose and fell around them.
"You both did great today. Keep working hard tomorrow."
"Awoo!" Cola answered excitedly, hopping about.
"Chirp." Spark nodded slightly.
No villagers disturbed them that afternoon, so the two little ones were able to train with focus the entire time.
Because his current understanding of pet beasts was still limited, Chen Yuan could not formulate a scientific and efficient training plan. He could only have them repeatedly use their skills, discovering shortcomings and making progress through each attempt.
Fortunately, with the data panel, Chen Yuan could clearly sense the positive feedback brought by training.
As long as proficiency increased, it meant his training method was not wrong.
After an afternoon of hard training, Spark's Flame Surge skill proficiency had risen to 1.3, while Cola's Wind Blade skill proficiency had risen to 0.3. He could now hit targets with fairly good accuracy.
As he pondered this, they had already entered their farm, where rows upon rows of crops came into view.
"Awoo awoo awoo!"
Cola suddenly barked repeatedly, turning sideways to stare toward the front left, his tail raised high.
Chen Yuan glanced at Cola, who had entered a guarded state, then looked toward the front left. There was a patch of wasteland there.
This patch of wasteland lay west of the farm. It had been used to grow grapes years ago, but as Grandpa's health had declined in recent years, it had been left abandoned.
But at this very moment, his grandfather was holding a hoe and confronting a strange creature half the height of a person.
The creature was dark gray all over and somewhat bloated. Several sharp protrusions extended from its forehead and claws, like artificial drill bits, gleaming with a metallic sharpness.
Its short tail seemed stuck to its backside, and its hind legs were just as pitifully short. Irregular red stripes covered its body.
Clearly, it was an Extraordinary Creature that had successfully evolved.
However, Chen Yuan could not tell at a glance what kind of wild animal it had evolved from. He could only vaguely feel that it belonged to the rodent family.
The thought vanished in an instant. Chen Yuan quickly walked to Chen Weiyi's side and asked, "Grandpa, what happened?"
Hearing Chen Yuan's voice, Chen Weiyi finally breathed a sigh of relief. He lowered his hoe, looked at the strange creature before him, and said irritably, "Just look at what it's done!"
Chen Yuan lowered his gaze and saw that a small patch of the wasteland before him was covered in overturned soil, with fresh earth exposed everywhere.
And in one corner was a large, pitch-black hole.
Chen Yuan's eyes immediately lit up, and he murmured, "Innate Earth-Turning Sacred Body!"
Anyone who had done farm work knew how exhausting it was to turn over soil. It often left one drenched in sweat after long, grueling labor.
And small-scale farming in mountainous areas did not use machinery. People could only wield hoes and turn the soil bit by bit, making the process terribly inefficient.
If I had a pet beast that could help turn the soil...
With that thought, Chen Yuan's gaze toward the Extraordinary Creature opposite him grew several degrees more fervent.
Grandpa was right. It really had done something wonderful!
Thinking this, Chen Yuan's face bloomed with an enthusiastic smile as he said, "Let's have a proper talk."
"Ka?"
The gopher-like Extraordinary Creature raised its eyes to look at Chen Yuan. Its semicircular orange eyes held a thoughtful glint. It first tilted its head, moving like a robot with low intelligence, then lowered its head, picked up a stone, and threw it at Chen Yuan!
The other party rejected your greeting and threw a stone!
Chen Yuan instinctively prepared to dodge to the side, but the stone landed a meter in front of him. He could not help muttering, "Looks like it doesn't have any hostile intent."
This behavior was more of a refusal to communicate.
"Awoo awoo awoo!"
But when Cola saw that the other party actually dared to launch an attack, he instantly could not hold back. A fierce light flashed in his eyes, and the muscles all over his body tensed, as though he would charge out the next second.
Chen Yuan stopped Cola. "Don't rush."
Cola had only evolved today and was not yet fully accustomed to his evolved body. Moreover, his skill proficiency was low. Facing an opponent of unknown strength could be dangerous.
"Spark, go."
"Chirp!"
Spark flew upward without hesitation, lightly flapping her wings as the flames at their roots burned vigorously.
Spark was now Level 2, with skill proficiency at 1.3. Her overall combat strength surpassed Cola's by quite a bit.
But to be safe, Chen Yuan used the Origin Points he had originally planned to spend unlocking her advancement method to increase her skill proficiency instead. Flame Surge's proficiency instantly became 2.3!
And so, Spark's first battle was about to begin!
