The sixth day after the torrential rain ended.
It was still high summer.
The shrill chirping of cicadas forcibly roused Chen Yuan from his sleep. He sprawled on the bed for quite a while before finally getting up through sheer force of will.
"Snore, snore~"
Cola was still sprawled on the carpet, sleeping soundly. Chen Yuan lightly nudged it with his foot and called softly, "Lazy dog, time to get up."
"Aw."
Cola groggily opened its eyes. Seeing Chen Yuan right in front of it, it jolted awake, scrambled up, and pounced at him.
"Slurp, slurp~"
Expressionlessly wiping the drool from his face, Chen Yuan pushed open the window.
Pale sunlight streamed in through the window, making even the dust in the air clearly visible.
He stretched, washed up quickly, and walked out of the bedroom. Cola wagged its tail as it stuck close behind him.
Grandpa had long finished breakfast and gone for a stroll around the village. Spark was alone in the yard, practicing its moves again and again.
When it saw Chen Yuan approach, it paused for the moment and waved a wing at its Beast Tamer. "Chirp chirp chirp~"
Morning, Beast Tamer~
Chen Yuan waved back, then shot Cola a fierce glare. "Look at how hardworking it is."
"Aw."
Cola lowered its head pitifully. Then, a butterfly suddenly fluttered past it. Its mouth immediately split into a grin as it chased after the butterfly, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Chen Yuan helplessly rubbed his forehead.
Not long after,
Cola came hurrying back to Chen Yuan, clamping its teeth around his pant leg as though trying to drag him somewhere.
"What trouble are you stirring up this time?" Chen Yuan gave it a suspicious look.
"Aw aw aw!"
Cola immediately grew anxious, trying to prove its innocence with a string of urgent barks.
"Alright." Chen Yuan suddenly smiled. "Take me over and let's see what happened."
"Aw~"
Only then did Cola breathe a sigh of relief. It trotted ahead, leading Chen Yuan to the chicken coop, with the curious Spark following behind.
"Huh? A Bean Chicken?"
Seeing the Bean Chicken in the coop—its body noticeably bigger, round and plump beneath a covering of pale yellow feathers—Chen Yuan finally understood Cola's earlier reaction.
One of the hens at home had evolved into a Bean Chicken.
In fact, Chen Yuan had discovered Bean Chickens in the midst of evolution in the village a few days ago, but he had been too busy and forgotten about it.
He had never expected one of his own hens to evolve successfully as well.
Chen Yuan stepped forward and met a pair of round black eyes, cautiously extending his hand.
When he was little, Chen Yuan had gotten pecked by hens plenty of times.
Especially hens with chicks—their fighting power would soar by a whole level.
Fortunately, the Bean Chicken merely gave him a faint glance and showed no further extreme reaction. It simply curled up quietly in the nest, guarding the several eggs beneath it.

"Bean Impact. What a strange name."
Chen Yuan muttered softly, then stretched out an arm and called, "Bean Chicken, use Bean Impact."
"Cluck?"
Hearing Chen Yuan's voice, the Bean Chicken merely cast him an indifferent glance before immediately lowering its head and ignoring him.
Chen Yuan: "?"
You eat and drink in my home, yet you won't give me any face!
"Aw aw aw!" Seeing such an unappreciative Bean Chicken, Cola instantly bared its fangs and brandished its sharp claws.
"Cluck!"
The Bean Chicken was utterly fearless. Its pitch-black eyes locked onto Cola, and its aura rose steadily, one step after another.
"Aw."
Seeing the Bean Chicken's imposing aura, Cola shrank its neck, retracted its claws, and quickly retreated behind Chen Yuan.
"Chirp~"
Spark looked down at Cola from above. Its meaning needed no explanation.
"Alright, just let the Bean Chicken lay its eggs in peace. Don't disturb it." Chen Yuan waved a hand and led the two little ones away from the coop.
As it left, Cola fiercely glared at the Bean Chicken that didn't know what was good for it before scampering after Chen Yuan.
"Spark, Cola, that Ironhead Kid working away so diligently, and now the Bean Chicken—the farm already has four Extraordinary Creatures."
"It's getting livelier and livelier." A smile appeared on Chen Yuan's face.
Among the Extraordinary Creatures he had encountered so far, aside from the Gray Feather Falcon being a little hot-tempered and the Bean Chicken being a little unappreciative, the rest all had quite good temperaments.
They were all good kids.
Back in the kitchen, Chen Yuan fed the two little ones first, then cooked himself a bowl of plain noodle soup. Holding the bowl, he squatted by the threshold and wolfed it down.
Before he had even finished the noodles, a hazy gray figure suddenly appeared high in the sky. A familiar screech followed at once. "Screech!"
One man and two pets raised their heads at the same time. Spark even flapped its wings, anger written across its face, as if it would spread its wings and take flight the next second.
It was that bad guy who had snuck off, nearly getting it scolded by its Beast Tamer!
And it dared to come back!
"It's this guy." Chen Yuan immediately stood up, confusion on his face as he watched the Gray Feather Falcon draw closer.
Hadn't it snuck away last night?
What had it come back for?
Before he could react, the Gray Feather Falcon dropped something from midair and let out another cry. "Screech!"
The next moment, the Gray Feather Falcon turned and flew back, leaving behind only a lone, proud silhouette that gradually vanished into the heavens.
"Aw aw aw!"
Cola's excited barking pulled Chen Yuan from his thoughts. Looking down, he saw Cola hopping around the thing that had fallen.
This... was actually a dead fish.
Moreover, the fish looked particularly strange. A short feeler protruded from its head, while gray-black scales covered its entire body.
"A spirit fish?" Chen Yuan exclaimed in surprise.
Clearly, this was a dead spirit fish.
Chen Yuan hurried closer and reached out to touch it.
No data panel appeared.
He frowned. "Not a spirit fish?"
"No, it has to be a spirit fish. How could an ordinary fish grow feelers?"
"Could it be..." His pupils contracted slightly as a faint guess surfaced in his heart. Only living creatures qualify to be collected by the system?
Chen Yuan suppressed the thoughts surging within him and looked up at the vast sky. "Is this your repayment?"
After shooing the drooling Cola aside, he put the spirit fish in the refrigerator, planning to eat it with Grandpa that evening.
Whether it really was a spirit fish or not, one bite would tell.
"Hao, want to go fishing today?" After breakfast, Chen Yuan called Zhang Hao.
Zhang Hao exclaimed, "Oh no, Brother Yuan, don't tell me you've gotten addicted to fishing?"
Chen Yuan replied, "The suggestion you made yesterday was pretty good. I want to give it a try."
Zhang Hao thought back carefully, then nodded in realization. "Oh, oh, raising fish in a fishpond, right?"
"That's right."
"Sorry, Brother Yuan. Something's come up at home today, so I can't go with you."
"No problem. I'll go by myself, then."
After hanging up, Chen Yuan walked over to the three-wheeler, ready to set off. But he saw Cola staring intently at the steering wheel and couldn't help laughing. "Cola, don't tell me you want to drive?"
To his surprise, Cola immediately turned to look at him, its expression more serious than ever before. "Aw aw aw!"
Coach, I want to learn how to drive!
