The next day, Fang Xiu had just gotten out of bed. He yawned as he walked downstairs in his slippers, then flopped onto the first-floor sofa—only to suddenly hear a strange sound.
"&*¥%@#" An incomprehensible language kept flowing into Fang Xiu's ears.
"?"
"Is the TV on? Some foreign channel? What the hell kind of language is that?"
Fang Xiu opened his eyes from the sofa and found that the TV was not on at all. Following the sound, he got to his feet and looked around, immediately discovering that it was coming from the storage room.
More precisely, it was coming from the underground chamber.
Fang Xiu pulled open the wooden door and pushed aside the stone slab. He found that the lights below had already been switched on, brightly illuminating the entire underground chamber and passageway.
Fang Xiu hunched over as he descended the stairs. The sound grew louder and louder. It was a language he could not really understand. It did not sound like English, French, German, or Japanese. Its syllables were extraordinarily strange. Fang Xiu even felt that it was not sound at all, but something like syllables transmitted directly into his soul.
At last, Fang Xiu saw what was making the sound. It was actually the antique radio he had placed on the coffee table last night.
At that moment, it was cradled in a girl's arms. She sat stiffly on a single-seat sofa like a puppet, quietly listening to the broadcast. Even when Fang Xiu came in, she did not so much as glance at him.
Fang Xiu knew she would not fade away so easily. Or rather, as long as this underground chamber still contained extraordinary items, she would not disappear that easily. But Fang Xiu also had no idea how long she could remain in this ghostly state.
He could tell that her condition was extremely unstable. Perhaps when he woke up one day, she would have vanished completely. In a sense, she should not have existed in this world at all.
But what Fang Xiu was concerned about right then was the radio in her hands. "This old antique still works?"
Fang Xiu sat down across from her and asked, "Where did you find batteries?"
He had checked before. The batteries this antique radio used were completely different from modern ones—huge things. Even if the radio had not been broken, it would have been difficult to find batteries capable of powering it.
However, the girl pointed toward Fang Xiu's storage cabinet. Fang Xiu immediately saw that of the three extraordinary items in the top three compartments, only two remained.
Deceitful Clown's Face and Giant Force Hand were still there, but Deep One's Blood was gone.
"What happened? Where did you take it? That thing is extremely dangerous. You can't just mess with the things I keep here." Fang Xiu immediately frowned.
The girl shifted slightly and opened the back cover of the antique radio. Fang Xiu instantly saw that the bottle which had contained Deep One's Blood had been completely burst apart. A bizarre, disgusting object resembling a heart, wrapped in shards of glass, had grown in the place where the radio's batteries should have been.
Fang Xiu could also see masses of bloody flesh and veins spreading into the radio's interior, occupying every part of it.
Inside, the radio looked like a terrifying radio made entirely of grotesque flesh.
And this kind of radio could still receive broadcasts. What kind of broadcast was it receiving? Fang Xiu suddenly felt that the frequency this horrific radio had picked up was equally bizarre. The sound buzzed inside his skull, rather than entering through his ears.
A female ghost, a flesh-and-blood radio, a terrifying radio station—and Fang Xiu was in a dark, eerie basement. An ordinary person would probably have been scared out of their wits already, but Fang Xiu felt it was not too bad.
Fang Xiu watched the little female ghost close the back cover, then hug the antique radio as she listened enthusiastically to the program. Her head swayed along with it, as if she were completely immersed in it. Curious, he asked, "Can you understand this language?"
The little female ghost nodded. "Mm."
Fang Xiu continued, "Can you read it out for me?"
After hesitating for a moment, the little female ghost spoke in a cool voice, as though reading aloud mechanically. "Welcome to the Kuo-toa Kingdom's Merman's Voice radio channel. It is once again time for our daily eight o'clock morning alchemy tutorial program."
"I am your friend, Murloc Alchemist Horace. Today, I will be teaching our many murloc friends about the basic applications of alchemy, what to watch out for when drawing basic alchemical formations, and at the end, I will teach everyone an easy-to-use meditation method, the Phantasmal Dream Crystal Meditation, created by the great..."
"Now, we must understand that alchemy originated from..."
Fang Xiu watched the little female ghost read the broadcast in an orderly, emotionless manner. She enunciated every word as she read, yet she was clear enough.
But the content she was reading was completely at odds with her calm, indifferent expression. As Fang Xiu listened, his mouth gradually fell wider and wider open.
"What?"
"You aren't messing with me, are you? That's really what the broadcast says? What kind of damn broadcast is this? Alchemy? Merman's Voice? A meditation method?"
"Are you telling me that this junk radio of yours is receiving broadcast information from another world and space-time, and that they're teaching introductory alchemy over the radio?"
The little female ghost hugged her antique radio. She did not understand at all why Fang Xiu was so surprised—or perhaps she simply could not be bothered with him. She closed her eyes and peacefully listened to her broadcast, even stopping her explanations.
Although Fang Xiu's face was filled with shock and disbelief, he had actually begun to believe it.
After merging with Deep One's Blood, this antique radio might have undergone some bizarre transformation. It had become a monstrous flesh-and-blood radio, a peculiar extraordinary item capable of receiving broadcasts and information from another world.
Fang Xiu guessed that this so-called radio channel most likely came from the other world where those three monster Killers had originated—the so-called 12568 Space-Time.
Fang Xiu carefully listened to that bizarre language again, but he still could not understand it at all. It was a wondrous language from another world, but why could the female ghost understand it while he could not?
Fang Xiu recalled his earlier sensation. "This may be a special language that only souls or spirit bodies can understand. It isn't transmitted through sound, but through some other means!"
"This might be my chance to truly come into contact with and master extraordinary power!" Fang Xiu's eyes lit up.
At that moment, Fang Xiu completely forgot that he had just been angry at the little female ghost for wasting his Deep One's Blood. In any case, that thing was useless to him. Fang Xiu could not possibly use it to turn himself into a monster, especially not in an irreversible way.
And sacrificing one bottle of Deep One's Blood in exchange for a radio that could receive knowledge of another world's Extraordinary System was an enormous profit.
Although Fang Xiu possessed several extraordinary items, he himself had no extraordinary power. Extraordinary items would eventually be used up one day, while only mastering extraordinary power himself and steadily becoming stronger was truly reliable.
Although Fang Xiu did not know whether the extraordinary powers or miraculous alchemy from another world could actually be used in this world, he could always try and find a way. This was a major opportunity and a breakthrough.
Fang Xiu immediately said ingratiatingly to the little female ghost, "Hey, little ghost girl, don't listen by yourself. Tell me about it too!"
The little female ghost raised her eyes and shot Fang Xiu a glare. Her voice carried a hint of childishness, but her dissatisfaction was unmistakable. "My name is Chen Jin!"
