Background / History

Fang Xiu began as an ordinary office worker in Wei Port City. After surviving an attempted murder, he killed his attacker, disposed of the body, and began investigating the supernatural forces behind the incident. He soon discovered that a spacetime node at Black Sugar Bar had allowed otherworldly beings onto Earth. Using the Saint Ring, he killed Red Devil and the Clown in public view. 3 7

Wang Hao, a time traveler who knew Fang Xiu from the future, left him an enormous inheritance: the Xinhe Road residence, the seventeenth floor of Hongxuan Building, and its monthly rental income. Fang Xiu converted the residence’s underground chamber into a treasury for supernatural items and research. 13 17 18

The Xinhe Road house introduced Fang Xiu to Chen Jin, the ghost daughter of Fifth Miss Chen. Through Chen Jin’s otherworldly radio broadcasts and his own experiments, Fang Xiu developed Soul Domination, created artificial souls, and established the Cultivation System. 19 22 24 26

Appearance

Fang Xiu is a short-haired young man with an energetic, sunny appearance, though periods of intense research and cultivation leave him visibly tired. His usual presentation is casual and unremarkable, ranging from inexpensive T-shirts and slippers to modern jackets and Daoist robes. 16 18 225

  • His ordinary eyes are dark, but the Saintly Posture turns them pupil-less and blazing white. 7 118
  • Under the Saint Ring’s power, his body becomes radiant white light; he may take the appearance of a silver-haired Daoist in moon-white robes. 7 30
  • He often conceals himself in public under the identity Fengdu, using illusions or deliberately inconspicuous clothing. 101 103 118
  • After Body Modification, he adjusts his physique toward the human limit without substantially changing his facial appearance. 42

Personality

Fang Xiu is composed and highly observant under pressure. He responds to sudden danger by testing possibilities, gathering information, and treating unfamiliar phenomena as problems to be solved rather than mysteries to fear. His pursuit of supernatural knowledge becomes intensely methodical once he realizes that disposable extraordinary items cannot provide lasting security. 3 21 24

He is independent, detached from ordinary status, and consistently prioritizes cultivation over wealth, fame, or political influence. At the same time, he enjoys amusing himself: he attends the Weigang Cultivation Alliance partly to hear people discuss his own exploits, frightens Black Fiend with illusions, and turns a banquet performance into a controlled prank against Qing Yang. 53 55 134 153

Despite his aloofness, Fang Xiu repeatedly protects, teaches, and provides for those he accepts as his own. He considers Chen Jin and Black Fiend family, supports their cultivation, and eventually begins passing on his knowledge to students and disciples. 150 247 435 472

Abilities & Skills

Soul Domination and Soul Creation

Fang Xiu’s innate ability is Soul Domination, a soul-based power that develops into the foundation of his cultivation system.

  • Creates artificial souls based on the Three Souls Seven Spirits structure, called Spirit Seeds. 26
  • Can inspect, suppress, and interfere with souls; he uses it to subdue Black Fiend and investigate Chen Jin’s soul structure. 24 26
  • Establishes a basic Spirit Realm by gathering fading spirits through the Necro Tree. 36 37
  • Initially cannot affect physical matter with soul power alone; mana conversion is required to cast material spells. 26

Mana Conversion and Body Modification

At the Qi Refining Stage, Fang Xiu forms a mana vortex within his soul and converts Spirit Value into mana.

  • Uses mana to cast spells that affect the physical world. 40
  • Mana consumption burns his own Spirit Value, unlike the effectively inexhaustible spellcasting supported by a Magic Net. 40
  • Applies the Basic Body Modification Technique to cure mild myopia, remove health problems caused by poor habits, and strengthen his physique beyond professional-athlete standards. 40 42
  • Uses life templates and bloodline research as the basis for later transformation and alchemical experiments. 81

Illusion and Ghost Dao

After merging the Deceitful Clown’s Face into his soul, Fang Xiu gains a broad range of illusion and Ghost Dao techniques.

  • Casts illusions that can overwhelm a target’s senses; Black Fiend perceives him as a silver-haired immortal while Chen Jin sees only an ordinary gesture. 28
  • Uses illusion spells for infiltration, intimidation, disguise, entertainment, and combat. 101 118 153
  • Cultivates the Northern Yin Refinement Ghost Spirit Restrictions, which can devour life and soul power, generate vortices, provide flight, and nurture Spirit Ghosts. 105
  • Commands large numbers of evil spirits and Spirit Ghosts, demonstrating the Ghost Dao as a path intended to restrain malicious ghosts rather than exploit them. 179
  • Teaches the Spirit Communication Technique, which enables communication with animals and may reveal impressions left by recently deceased souls. 179

Saintly Posture

The Saint Ring grants Fang Xiu an overwhelming but limited transformation.

  • Turns him into a floating being of white light with pupil-less eyes and an emotionless, elevated state of mind. 7
  • Provides flight, immense physical force, rapid movement, and the Eye of True Sight, which can scan a city district. 7
  • Allows him to crush Red Devil with a stomp and kill the Clown with overwhelming force. 7
  • The ring develops a crack after use, suggesting that its power has a limited number of activations. 8

Soul Devouring and Kun-Derived Divine Power

After being stained by the blood of the ancient divine beast Kun, Fang Xiu gains a dangerous devouring ability.

  • Replaces the Kun’s residual consciousness within Mythical Blood with his own will. 73
  • Forms a black vortex in his left palm that can consume flesh, blood, and soul, reducing targets to ash. 73
  • Uses the weaker but learnable Soul Devouring Spell, copied from the White Bone Human Demon, rather than relying solely on inherited Divine Powers. 80
  • Recognizes that Divine Powers without continued cultivation can eventually consume their wielder’s soul after their Mythical Blood reserves are exhausted. 73

Alchemy and Artifact Refinement

Fang Xiu is an accomplished alchemist and artifact refiner who works closely with Chen Jin.

  • Creates Longevity Pills and Spring Return Talismans; the former restore the user toward physical peak condition, while the latter heal injuries and illness. 42
  • Refines Transformation Pills from Kun’s blood, capable of activating a Divine Power and enabling a dual life template. 81
  • Helps create a living, heart-like alchemy platform from demonized Giant Force Gauntlets. 63
  • Refines the Nine Dragons Imperial Seal to the peak of the third rank, creating nine Flood Dragon manifestations. 226
  • Refines the Hundred Bone Spirit Void Ship into a fourth-tier Spirit Treasure with self-repair and cultivation capabilities. 247
