Wong, who had been teaching, stopped when he heard the argument outside. Then he said to the others apologetically,
"It seems something's come up."
As he spoke, he looked toward Tao Yu. Wong was curious about him too. The Sorcerer Supreme had made special arrangements for him, and more than that—
She had given him both the Book of Vishanti and the Eye of Agamotto!
The significance of this was enormous. It was almost as good as naming him the next Sorcerer Supreme!
Wong, however, had never wanted the position. He was just a laid-back, chubby sorcerer, so he was curious, but felt nothing else.
Still, he thought Mordo and Kaecilius might be unhappy about it.
Especially Kaecilius. He had always performed exceptionally well and was a genuine magical prodigy. It seemed only natural that he'd feel a sudden sense of loss.
Personally, Wong was more inclined to side with Kaecilius. He had only just met the people here, and although he and Kaecilius weren't particularly close, they had known each other for many years.
"It's fine. Let him in."
Hearing Kaecilius's voice outside, Tao Yu wasn't surprised either.
Kaecilius's original path had been guided by The Ancient One all along. He was an important supporting character in her succession plan, a pawn assigned to play his part.
But now that The Ancient One had been corrupted by the Abyss, she probably no longer had the energy to keep an eye on him.
Since Tao Yu had agreed to inherit the title of Sorcerer Supreme and promised The Ancient One he would protect the world, then even if he couldn't save the world from the Abyss, he could at least help take care of things like Thanos, right?
If he couldn't deal with the Abyss, surely he could deal with
