Seireitei was the absolute heart of Soul Society. Above it stood the Soul King Palace, below it lay Central 46, and on the surface were the Gotei 13 barracks, numerous government offices, and the residences of the noble clans.
For example, the Shin'ō Academy and the Development 3rd Division were both within Seireitei.
A special wall separated Seireitei from the Rukongai outside.
The walls were made of Spirit-dissolving Stone, which could break down souls. The only way to enter Seireitei from the Rukongai was through one of its four gates.
It had been that way for years.
But that long stretch of calm was broken today...
Some intruders had used a special method to break through the Reishi barrier from above and enter Seireitei!
The Gotei 13 had nearly all mobilized, beginning a search for the intruders.
But judging by the search so far and the results of the battles, things were not looking good.
A captain had already been defeated by the intruders!
That was shocking enough to shake all of Seireitei, and even all of Soul Society.
Many Soul Reapers searching for the intruders exchanged news whenever they met.
"Captain Kenpachi Zaraki of the 11th Division was defeated? How is that possible? He's a true battle maniac!"
"It was already outrageous when the intruders beat Ikkaku and the others. I can't believe they've taken down a captain too..."

A few Soul Reapers dressed in black robes ran into one another on the rooftops and spread the news that Kenpachi Zaraki had been defeated.
