The Midnight Mother, Entwined in a River of Blood, and the Man Who Would Put a Leash on Her
Luna hadn't done much over the past hundred years. To sum it up, besides founding the Witch Cult to spread faith in Triss, the Scarlet Witch, and link her to the Midnight Mother, that eldritch abomination, she had also used her standing as a high-ranking member of the Blood Eagle Clan, along with the deadly infection of mad blood, to create a rather peculiar family of Deathfangs.
Or, to use the special term vampires had for these monsters: "Deathfang mutants."
They were unlike traditional vampires: crazed and extremely aggressive. Most came from the lowest rungs of society and were naturally associated with violence and sin. They were an even more extreme group of madmen in an already extreme vampire society.
A member of this clan had appeared in the territory of the gnoll Plague Clan before, but that barista who had fallen deeply in love with Luna had been personally obliterated by Murphy. The rest of the family rarely operated on the Old Continent.
That was partly because they were strange, but also because although the vampire clans were at odds with one another, most of the Old Continent had already been divided among them beneath the Midnight. Each family's sphere of influence was clearly defined.
If a strange mutant like the Deathfangs, who didn't belong to one of the Seven Great Families, was discovered by a vampire clan, it would immediately cause unnecessary conflict.
Thus, members of the Deathfang Clan usually served as the Twilight's claws in certain secret affairs, while the rest lived and operated in parts of the Castilian Peninsula under Luna's command.
Thanks to the Madblood Clan's extreme contagiousness, the Deathfang Clan's growth didn't rely entirely on blood pacts. As a result, these mutant vampires numbered far more than Murphy and Triss had expected.
