Still utterly bewildered, Rabbit swam for twenty minutes before finally managing to reach shore. The moment she did, she launched into a loud rant in textbook Northeastern Chinese, cursing this damned random event for starting with such a bang.
From the beach where she stood, she could still make out the ghost ship tilted in the distance.
It was completely out of control. Not only had it rammed straight into a reef, it had also come to a "sudden stop." The ghost sailors aboard seemed to be under the absolute control of some force, unable to communicate or return to their normal duties.
Worse, that sudden high-speed collision had flung every player on deck or inside the ship into the sea.
The players who were online had no trouble saving themselves right away, but the ones who'd logged off to rest were in a bad way. Their bodies had plunged into the cold, dark water. Fortunately, their headsets had an alert system that let the unlucky players know something was wrong, so they could log back in immediately. Rabbit had only just gotten home after going shopping with her husband when she heard her game headset blaring an alarm.
She hadn't even had time to change out of her outdoor clothes before logging in. She'd only just managed to swim clear before the chaotic currents swept her character away.
But Dog wasn't so lucky.
Rabbit was a merfolk, so there was no risk of her drowning, but he wasn't. When he logged in, he saw the notification that his character had drowned—and earned himself a three-day gaming ban. Dog was so furious he yelled his head off in the living room.
