Murphy had vaguely guessed the answer when Ms. Flindis said "guilt."
But for Mosna, it struck like a bolt from the blue, leaving her utterly stunned. The moment she heard the Grand Librarian admit that she had once executed her Sentinel sisters, Mosna flew into a rage.
She grabbed Murphy's desk and lunged across it, yanking Ms. Flindis's monitor free as she shouted:
"How could you do that? Sentinels are one! We never keep secrets from each other, and we're always absolutely loyal to one another! You bastard! How could you kill your own sisters? You cold-blooded bastard!"
"Enough, Mosna. I want to hear the rest!"
Murphy stood up at the sight of the two mechanical girls fighting. He shouted several times, but couldn't calm Mosna's fury, so he raised his left hand and let the Eden program do its work.
"Compulsory calming protocol activated!"
At the Eden program's cold prompt, Mosna—who had been furious just a moment ago and had even grabbed her multipurpose repair wrench—calmed down at once.
The anger data in her thought processes was altered and deleted, returning her body to standby mode. Then she turned back to Murphy with a blank expression and apologized.
"Sorry, sir. I lost control."
"Um... could you put her head back on first?"
Murphy said helplessly. Mosna glanced at the monitor she had pulled off.
She should have smashed the thing with her wrench, but although the hatred and disgust in her simulated emotions remained, her anger was gone. All she could do was plug Ms. Flindis's bulky monitor back into the ridiculous headless machine with the utmost distaste.
Apparently, the Grand Librarian's new body came with an efficient and practical quick-connect feature. Once the monitor was back in place, her image reappeared amid a flurry of static.
"Go on.
