"Rose, how did the test results turn out for the consciousness-linking device the outsiders reverse-engineered?"
After spending several lonely days in the Swamp Restricted Zone, Murphy finally finished modifying the Gray Desert's terrain. He stretched and climbed out of the mechanical chair, then casually asked his question. It took several seconds for his bedmate to respond.
"Terrible! I've never seen code run so inefficiently. There's far too much redundancy, and the data release process is a complete mess. They're supposedly imitating the Creator's technology, so why did they do such a lousy job?"
Rose complained:
"I'm helping them improve it right now. The first thing we need to fix is that mountain of garbage code. It's driving me crazy! Compared with the Creator's efficient programming methods, binary language is painfully inefficient.
"I know it's not their fault, but I'm the one stuck handling the conversion between two different encoding methods. The operating efficiency of my data kingdom has dropped by seven percentage points because of it.
"I can't take this anymore!
"Haven't they already deciphered the Creator's encoding system? Why are they so stubborn about using binary?"
"Because this is still our own work, Rose. That's how the outsiders are. They're willing to learn humbly, but they can only call it success once they've drawn their own insights from other people's knowledge."
Murphy sighed.
"Let them be. That kind of self-reliance is worth respecting. Besides, you've complained plenty, but you haven't said the device is completely useless. That means it actually works, right?"
"It works!"
Rose said:
"But even with me handling most of the data redundancy, their device still falls far short of the Creator's game helmet design standards.
"At this rate, after two more rounds of revisions, they should be able to reach the stage where outsiders' consciousnesses
