"Old Edward sent a faction made up entirely of Blood Eagle traitors to ambush the Cape family's convoy on the Transian border? How does that ancient always manage to come up with such unexpected mischief?
Can we confirm whether this information is true?"
Murphy quickly learned what had happened at the border from Femis's report. He wasn't surprised; given the feud between the Blood Eagles and Wolfsbane, nothing either side did to the other was particularly shocking.
He was only puzzled by why old Edward had chosen to do this now.
The ancient clan leader had just maintained a superficial peace with the Blood Eagle Clan under Lord Paine's mediation. Was he deliberately provoking Lord Paine?
"I used a few 'secret arts' I learned from the Blood Covenant Knights' interrogators to dig this information out of the Wolf Eagle faction's vanguard captain's mind. It can't be falsified—unless they planted false information in his mind beforehand."
Femis replied with complete certainty:
"But whether it was a direct order from old Edward is still unclear. Personally, I strongly suspect this was another 'unauthorized action,' like the Grayclaw faction's move before. And the one behind it is Lady Cecilia, who just led the traitors over to the Wolfsbane Clan.
"Yes, my insane mother."
"Very well."
Murphy toyed with the core orb.
Though Femis hadn't said so outright, he understood what sort of "authority" she wanted from him by reporting this.
As for the matter itself, Murphy certainly couldn't let it go unchecked. Aside from the cooperation agreement the Cape family had reached with Scarlet Keep through Major Fraser, the production lines carried by this convoy were an essential resource he couldn't afford to lose.
The site for Transia's First National Arsenal had already been selected. Now they were just waiting for the production
