First Appearance Chapter 208

Background

The Purple Sun Sect is among the Saint Origin Country's top five sects and is one of the relatively few major sects that specialize in Origin Power Martial Arts. Its influence extends over subordinate dynasties, whose talented martial artists can be recruited through the sect's Ascending Dragon Paths and resident envoys. 208 211 212

The sect does not generally intervene in alternative cultivation paths, including Demon Blood Warrior cultivation, unless they cause widespread devastation. This policy reflects the vast number of martial paths under its jurisdiction. 208

Its reputation rose substantially under Sect Master Scheme ZiYang, particularly on the frontline, where it was regarded as Saint Origin City's second-largest force and became known throughout the Ten Directions World for resisting the Celestial Demons. 340 453

Locations

  • Shouyang City — The sect's base in the Saint Origin Country. Its true grounds lie in the Inner City, across the Purple River. 208 212
  • Purple River — The purple-colored river dividing Shouyang City's Outer and Inner Cities; it is said to be the source of the sect's name. 212
  • Three Major Peaks — Crimson Sun Peak, Righteous Sun Peak, and Purple Sun Peak. 212
  • Saint Origin City branch — A stronger frontline branch where Mystical Power Realm disciples may become True Disciples. 349
  • Purple Sun City — A temporary settlement in the Barren Ancient Mountain Range established after the Celestial Demon disaster; it shelters sect members, allied forces, and rogue cultivators. 453
  • Nether Soul Land replica — A training ground within the sect modeled after the real Nether Soul Land. Its connection to the true location is known only to the sect master. 465

Organization

Disciple ranks

Peak disciple Reached after entering the Gathering Origin Realm; also called a peak gate disciple or inner disciple. 212 219
True Disciple Core sect member; can contend for the sect master position or later become an elder. The frontline branch requires Mystical Power Realm cultivation for this status. 349 357
Sect Master Keeper of secrets restricted to the position, including the method of reaching the real Nether Soul Land. 465

The sect has hundreds of thousands of disciples and contains practitioners of multiple martial paths despite its focus on Origin Power. Divine Weapon and Qi Blood martial artists are also present among its disciples. 212

Recruitment and identity

  • The sect maintains hundreds of Ascending Dragon Paths for recruiting disciples from distant dynasties. 208
  • A resident envoy may issue a Recommendation Token, allowing the holder to bypass the ordinary entry assessment. 208 211
  • Recommendation-token holders are considered effectively half-members during their journey and receive protection from the sect's deterrent reputation. 208
  • Identity tokens verify entry, track disciples' cultivation-related status, and are treated as essential sect property. 212
  • True Disciple tokens can report a disciple's death to the sect and reflect the sect's monitoring and protection of core members. 357

Cultivation Resources

Purple Origin Art

The Purple Origin Art is the free cultivation method issued to Meridian Opening Realm disciples. Its nine levels correspond to one through nine Mystic Meridians and accelerate Origin Power circulation rather than directly increasing Origin Power reserves. Each completed level doubles circulation speed. 212

Its Origin Power Form chapter develops sun and moon forms with 86,400 variations. 212

Purple Sun Art

The Purple Sun Art succeeds the Purple Origin Art and can be cultivated through the Origin Spirit Realm. Unlike the introductory art, its later levels must be purchased with Spirit Origin Pills. 219

Spirit Origin Pills and contributions

  • Spirit Origin Pills are the sect's principal cultivation currency. 212
  • Disciples earn them through Task Pavilion missions and rewards from the Three Rankings. 212
  • At the frontline branch, inner disciples receive 10,000 Pure Origin Pills monthly, while True Disciples receive 50,000. 349
  • The sect's Contribution Hall allows disciples to exchange contributions for cultivation resources, including substitute pills. 360

Facilities

  • Scripture Pavilion — Holds cultivation manuals and follow-up techniques. 216 254
  • Cultivation Method Pavilion — Sells subsequent cultivation methods, including the Purple Sun Art. 212 219
  • Myriad Wonders Cave — A cultivation site used to accelerate progress through formations. 236
  • Task / Mission Pavilion — Provides assignments and handles matters such as resident envoy tokens. 212 219
  • Disciple Pavilion — Registers disciple advancement and distributes ranking rewards. 219
  • Rune Pavilion — Issues information runes and sect materials to incoming disciples. 212
  • Ascend Yang Hall — A major hall of the Saint Origin City branch. 349
  • Shouyang Mountain — A major competition site that supplanted the Martial Arena Square after the Peak Battle. 294

Rankings and Assessment

The sect maintains the Crimson Sun Ranking, Proud Sun Ranking, and Myriad Forms Ranking, collectively called the Three Rankings. They offer Spirit Origin Pill rewards and serve as measures of a disciple's strength and talent. 212 218 219

Ordinary entrants undergo assessments, while recommendation-token holders may bypass the entry examination. Becoming a True Disciple involves further assessments of strength, character, and talent; Su Chen's recommendation from Yang Jiu allowed him to receive exemptions from many of these requirements. 212 357

Leadership and Notable Members

  • Scheme ZiYang — Sect Master. He leads the sect's resistance against the Celestial Demons, dispatched a clone to rescue Su Chen in the Demon Cave, and later sought to make Su Chen his successor. 395 465 470
  • Yang Jiu — Vice Sect Master associated with the sect's Ten Directions World branch; he recruited Su Chen through resident envoy Song Yang and later advised him on Mystical Power cultivation. 208 305
  • Yang Yi — Vice Sect Master of the Saint Origin City branch who intervened against the Saint Origin Sect's demand for Su Chen's surrender. 351
  • Lu Hai — Law Enforcement Elder who defended Su Chen against Wu Mo and supervised the sect's Demon Hunting expedition. 349 350 361
  • Bi Tianyu — Former Number One True Disciple and expected successor. He possessed extensive influence within the sect before betraying it and joining the Celestial Demons. 350 351 472
  • Su Chen — Former disciple who became a True Disciple at the frontline branch, later returned as a Wu Jixian Realm martial artist, and agreed to become the next sect master. 357 456 465

Major Events

Su Chen's entry and rise

Su Chen joined through Song Yang's Recommendation Token, bypassing the standard entry assessment. He subsequently dominated the Three Rankings, became a Righteous Sun Peak disciple upon reaching Gathering Origin, and earned the sect's attention as an exceptional talent. 208 212 219

The Vice Sect Master concealed Su Chen's nine-meridian status by recording him as an eight-meridian martial artist, fearing that rival alliances would attempt to assassinate him. 219

Peak Battle

After Su Chen announced he would face those pursuing the Myriad Transformations Senior's inheritance, disciples from numerous major sects gathered against him. The Purple Sun Sect's disciples, including Shang Shuo, Chang Yuan, Teng Gui, and Zhu Qingyou, defended his residence and refused to reveal his location. 240 241 255

Su Chen ultimately defeated the gathered challengers, making his name known across the Saint Origin Country and raising the sect's prestige. 245 249

Saint Origin Sect dispute

When Su Chen arrived at the frontline branch, the Saint Origin Sect demanded that the Purple Sun Sect hand him over for Qing Zhi's death. Lu Hai and Yang Yi resisted the demand, prioritizing sect dignity and Su Chen's potential. 349 350 351

Bi Tianyu attempted to appease the Saint Origin Sect by offering to cripple Su Chen, beginning an open rivalry between the two disciples. 350 351

Demon Cave disaster

The sect organized a large Demon Hunting expedition into the Demon Cave, sending more than a hundred disciples under Xiang Cheng's leadership. 361 362

The emergence of Celestial Demons turned the operation into a disaster. Scheme ZiYang sent a clone and powerful talismans to rescue Su Chen, but the rescue failed and the Demon Cave was later sealed. 395 436

Celestial Demon invasion

The Celestial Demons eventually invaded the Ten Directions World. The Purple Sun Sect's original grounds were destroyed, its ruins were occupied by Asura King Ku Se, and many sect members escaped under Scheme ZiYang's leadership. 436 438 440 466

The survivors and allied forces regrouped in Purple Sun City, becoming one of the main forces resisting the invasion. 438 453

Betrayal and war

The Saint Origin Sect allied with the Celestial Demons and attacked Purple Sun City. Scheme ZiYang led the Purple Sun Sect's Wu Jixian Realm elders and guest elders in its defense, personally killing the Asura Tana. 470

Bi Tianyu openly betrayed the sect, wielding the Three-legged Cauldron against Scheme ZiYang and declaring his willingness to sacrifice the Ten Directions World for greater power. Su Chen prevented Scheme ZiYang from self-destructing and took responsibility for confronting Bi Tianyu. 472

Trivia

  • The Purple Sun Sect's scarlet robes bear a purple sun emblem described as appearing to contend with the actual sun. 241
  • The sect's status is sufficiently formidable that nearby dynasties treat the identity of a Purple Sun Sect disciple with extreme caution. 208 221
  • Although its original grounds fell into ruin during the invasion, the Celestial Demons later rebuilt the site into a heavily guarded fortress under Ku Se's control. 440 466
