When Hubble saw Franz again, the latter wore a restrained look of pride.
"I heard they threw you to the rear. Those military bastards are petty-minded. At critical moments, they don't want outsiders meddling." Franz directly pointed out why Hubble had been rotated out. Otherwise, reinforcements and time to rest should have been arranged for him long ago. The reason they had kept giving him chances to distinguish himself was simply so they could replace him when the crucial moment came.
The sweetest portion would never be handed over for those outside the military's inner circle to taste.
That was reality. Effort was less important than one's background.
Hubble had actually figured it out long ago. He had always understood the divisions between social classes, so he remained very calm. "Baron, if it were me, I would have arranged it the same way."
But Franz naturally had a reason to be pleased with himself.
Hubble's performance satisfied him. Hubble, lacking any connections among the upper ranks, was exactly the sort of helper Franz had taken a liking to.
So he revealed why Hubble had received his new orders.
"It won't be that easy for those old fogies to kick us aside. I asked His Highness Qin for an assignment. Take your men and guard His Highness Qin. It's definitely a better deal than risking your life on the front lines."
Who didn't have some connections? The military had shown him so little respect that Franz was simmering with anger. He only wanted to send one man in to earn some military achievements, yet those bastards had refused. Their greed was downright ugly.
So he turned around and assigned Hubble a different job. This completely bypassed military deployment procedures; it was a specific transfer order issued directly by the expeditionary command
