Background

Louis was born among the Lunarians, a people hunted by the World Government. He carries the mission of returning his people to the Red Line and restoring Lunarian greatness, though he rejects the indiscriminate revenge advocated by some of his clansmen. He is notably kinder to ordinary people and was popular among the Sky Islanders of Bal. 2

After obtaining the Paramecia-type Life-Life Fruit on Sky Island, Louis left Bal to pursue stronger opponents, temper his Haki, and enter the New World despite his young age. 3 13 His hostility toward the World Government led him to attack Navy vessels, beginning with the destruction of a warship and the death of Rear Admiral S.T. Rade. 1 2

Louis later traveled with the Red-Haired Pirates, forming close ties with Shanks, Uta, and Yelena. He eventually established the Archangel Pirates, recruited Giants and other powerful allies, seized Dressrosa as a temporary base, and developed Terra as a growing territory for his people and subordinates. 51 99 157 212

Appearance

Louis is a golden-haired Lunarian youth with white wings and a saintly, angel-like presence that frequently draws attention from civilians. 6 39

  • Golden hair and flawless white wings. 6 137
  • Can conceal his identity beneath heavy armor, a sword, shield, and winged decorations. 87
  • His Lunarian flame substantially enhances his already exceptional defense. 20 51
  • Often carries a spear; later wields swords including Golden Kunlun and the Seven Star Sword. 3 141 302
  • His body emits golden radiance when using his Life-Life Fruit. 3

Personality

Louis is highly confident, ambitious, and exceptionally difficult to intimidate. He regards combat against powerful opponents as necessary for growth and rejects the idea that youth should prevent him from pursuing the New World. 13 His confidence is rooted in his Lunarian defenses, Haki, speed, healing ability, and unusually strong physique. 51

He is ruthless toward the World Government, Navy, traffickers, and enemies who threaten his people, but he does not endorse indiscriminate violence against civilians. Louis heals the injured, frees slaves, and protects vulnerable races, while showing little mercy to those he considers oppressors. 2 72 87 166

As captain, Louis is protective of his crew and attentive to their development. He distributes Devil Fruits, heals injured subordinates, gives them protective devices, and encourages those struggling with fear or self-doubt. 141 180 241 Although his crew initially sees him as someone who solves problems through force, he increasingly employs manipulation, hostage-taking, and political conflict to weaken rival powers. 206

Abilities & Skills

Lunarian Physiology

Louis possesses the innate traits of a Lunarian, combining wings, flames, speed, and extraordinary durability.

  • Flies at supersonic speed and can cross great distances rapidly. 1 51
  • Igniting the flame behind his back dramatically enhances his defense. 20 51
  • Kizaru and Aokiji were unable to significantly harm him during their earlier confrontation. 137 171
  • Uses flames offensively, including miniature suns, fire attacks, and the Blazing Sun technique. 21 302

Life-Life Fruit

Louis possesses the Paramecia-type Life-Life Fruit, which grants control over life force.

  • Heals external injuries without side effects and can restore critically injured people in moments. 3 280
  • Animates inanimate matter, including warships, seawater humanoids, earth-and-stone hands, and structures. 3 21 206
  • His animated creations obey commands and possess survival instincts, but initially lack independent thought. 3
  • Drains life force from living targets; he uses this against enemies such as traffickers and Ryokugyu. 72 224
  • Can use life force to rapidly grow plants and grotesquely transform opponents. 6
  • After awakening, can solidify life force into protective feather-based devices. 241
  • Can extract life force at a distance and modify Mythical Creatures. 242

Life Solidification Devices

Following his awakening, Louis creates feathers containing solidified life force for his subordinates. 241

  • Protect their holders when Louis is absent. 241 242
  • Are not negated by ordinary Haki; Louis's Haki within the device is stronger than that of its intended users. 242
  • Can be used as protection against assassination attempts. 252

Haki

Louis is an advanced user of all three forms of Haki.

  • Observation Haki — awakened from birth; detects approaching enemies, predicts attacks, and identifies familiar presences over distance. 6 25 51 161
  • Armament Haki — used in combat alongside his physical strength and weapons. 131
  • Conqueror's Haki — can release and control it freely, distinguish allies from enemies, coat weapons with it, and clash with Kaido strongly enough to split the sky. 91 173 224
  • Louis concludes that sufficiently powerful Conqueror's Haki can overcome Imu's immortality. 351

Weaponry and Combat

Louis primarily fights with a spear but also uses swords without considering himself a true swordsman.

  • Uses spear strikes enhanced by golden light and Conqueror's Haki. 6 224
  • Employs destructive flying slashes through physical power rather than formal swordsmanship. 137
  • Retrieved the sword Golden Kunlun after the battle involving Kaido and the Navy. 141
  • Draws the Seven Star Sword alongside his spear against Imu and the Five Elders. 302

Mythical Creatures

Louis creates and commands large-scale life forms and constructs through his Life-Life Fruit.

  • Anemoi — used as a defensive surprise attack against intruding ships; later modified to act independently. 124 242
  • Gaia — forms massive structures and terrain, including the vertical passage at Dressrosa and a super-large Gothic building. 160 163
  • Thor — manifested to protect Louis and Hajrudin from Thunder God Island's lightning. 147
  • Golden Crow — a life-forged Mythical Creature form used against Imu. 350

Equipment

  • Spear — Louis's principal weapon. 3 224
  • Golden Kunlun — sword recovered from ice after the conflict with Kaido and the Navy. 141
  • Seven Star Sword — drawn during his assault on Imu and the Five Elders. 302
  • Heavy armor, sword, and shield — used while concealing his identity. 87
  • Abente Heim / Island Cloud — mobile base and transport used by the Archangel Pirates. 99 109 206

  • He considers his swordsmanship limited despite being capable of mountain-cleaving flying slashes. 137
