Ch. 41Ten Requests

Lu Cang accepted nine requests to hunt Tier 3 monster lords and recruited a temporary party of Level 3 adventurers. After Xili confirmed his identity as Izpalut's disciple, Loth eagerly joined him, and the group set out in a Dragon Rhino carriage.

  • Lu Cang asked Xili how many requests he could take and received permission to accept nine Tier 3 monster-lord hunts and a monster-group request.
  • Lu Cang posted a request for Level 3 healers, defenders, and gatherers from different parties to help hunt nine Tier 3 monster lords in one day.
  • Loth doubted Lu Cang's claim that he was Izpalut's disciple until Xili revealed that he was the strongest magic prodigy since Iz, prompting Loth to ask to join him.
  • Lu Cang formed a temporary party with Loth, Maizer, and Trand, who had come to Rhein Town without a suitable party.
  • Lu Cang rode with the group in a Dragon Rhino carriage and learned about their professions and plans to team up temporarily.

Ch. 42Growing Closer

Lu Cang asked his new teammates about taking a second profession and learned how monsters and dungeons formed with the Demonic Tide. As the team approached its target, Maizer spotted it, and Lu Cang summoned his staff from his spatial ring.

  • Lu Cang praised Maizer and asked the team which second profession suited a mage, and Loth recommended scholar, healer, or enchanter.
  • Lu Cang used friendly conversation to learn about his teammates’ backgrounds, skills, pay, and personal lives.
  • The adventurers explained that monsters appeared with the Demonic Tide, while dungeons also depended on factors such as the month, stars, and ancient nests.
  • Maizer spotted the target ahead in sparse woodland, and Lu Cang stood up and summoned his staff from his spatial ring.

Ch. 43Mad Hunt

Lu Cang and his companions hunted Tier 3 Lord monsters, killing a Ghostface Spider and then Yanweibahe with overwhelming magic. After collecting the spider’s valuable remains, they continued through the ten contracts Lu Cang had been authorized to take.

  • Lu Cang showed off his new staff as the party spotted a Ghostface Spider, and Loth quickly dispelled the fear it caused.
  • Lu Cang struck the Ghostface Spider with Lightning Flash, Earthfire Eruption, and Emergent Charge Pillar, killing it before Maizer’s arrow reached it.
  • Maizer harvested the spider’s parts, including a leg with the Hatred trait, and Lu Cang stored the roughly 20 gold worth of loot.
  • The party set off for another target among Lu Cang’s ten contracts, which Xili had authorized because the Demonic Tide was approaching.
  • Lu Cang froze Yanweibahe with Ice Shard and a giant wave, leaving its body covered in frost and bloody holes.

Ch. 44Special Species

Lu Cang hunted third-tier lord monsters while traveling with Loth and Trand, earning a large haul and hearing about life across the world. After Loth’s improvised fortune-telling tube gave him its rarest result, the group approached the final commission: a stronger-than-usual Special Species.

  • Maizer collected 12 gold coins’ worth of spoils, and Lu Cang leveled Ice Shuttle to 200 during the hunt.
  • Lu Cang quickly killed an Ice Crystal Winged Bird with his evolved Extreme Speed Ice Shuttle and Silent Wind Swarm, earning 16 gold coins’ worth of materials.
  • Loth explained the custom of praying to Yakartikto, then had Lu Cang draw a fortune that read Supreme Auspicious.
  • Lu Cang heard Loth and Trand discuss adventuring, fortune-telling, and other everyday realities as the group traveled.
  • By noon, Lu Cang had defeated eight third-tier lord monsters and earned 144 gold coins, including the commission reward.
  • Lu Cang and Trand neared the final target, a third-tier lord Special Species, as the wind currents grew stronger.

Ch. 45Elemental Body, Wind-Chasing Shadow Beast

Lu Cang and his companions confronted the Wind-Chasing Shadow Beast, a mutated third-tier lord monster that attacked from the forest. After Lu Cang exposed it with a barrage of spells, he let Trand engage it so he could judge his hired allies' fighting ability.

  • Lu Cang rode with Trand and the others toward the Wind-Chasing Shadow Beast, while Maizer sensed they were close.
  • The monster struck from hiding with Shadow Slash, but Lu Cang blocked its attacks and unleashed many spells that destroyed the surrounding forest and revealed it.
  • The Wind-Chasing Shadow Beast charged at Lu Cang, and he recognized that its elemental body was vulnerable to opposing elemental attacks.
  • Lu Cang chose to observe his companions rather than attack, while Trand stepped forward and used Hate Taunt to draw the monster's attention.
  • After the monster failed to break Lu Cang's Hardened Barrier, Lu Cang jumped from Dragon Rhino and used an ice shuttle to keep pace as Trand confronted it.

Ch. 46Almost Infinite Mana

Lu Cang used a specialized Holy Light Cross to kill the Wind-Chasing Shadow Beast while his teammates supported the fight. He then led the group to destroy a goblin settlement with fifteen minutes of relentless magic bombardment, leaving only scorched earth and ash.

  • Lu Cang controlled the Dragon Rhino and watched Trand withstand the Wind-Chasing Shadow Beast's attacks with help from Loth's healing and protection.
  • Lu Cang threw a tracking Holy Light Cross that pierced and purified the Wind-Chasing Shadow Beast, killing it in seconds.
  • Lu Cang began attacking a goblin settlement from the Dragon Rhino carriage, using waves of spells while his companions watched.
  • Lu Cang continued bombarding the settlement for fifteen minutes despite his teammates believing the goblins were already defeated.
  • Lu Cang stopped after reducing the settlement to charred earth and drifting ash.

Ch. 47Ten Days

Lu Cang spent ten days building his strength and reputation through adventuring commissions while worrying about Iz and his party in the dangerous Tier 7 Dungeon. With the Demonic Tide nearing Level 5 density, he decided to rest in Rhein Town, but ended the chapter seeing another notice for missing adventurers.

  • Lu Cang turned down his teammates’ invitation to celebrate and spent the evening practicing magic and flying with Ice Spindles.
  • Over the next ten days, Lu Cang trained his spells to their level cap, cleared more than eighty Tier 3 Dungeons, and completed over two hundred major commissions with Loth and the others.
  • At the library, Loth warned Lu Cang that the Demonic Tide was nearing Level 5 density and that a Level 5 monster might appear in the wild.
  • Lu Cang chose to stay in Rhein Town and rest, while Loth and Maizer left to explore a Tier 3 Dungeon.
  • On his way back to the inn, Lu Cang saw a Guild notice listing another adventurer as missing.

Ch. 48King-tier

Lu Cang entered the Blood Sacrifice Cave to search for the missing Loth and Maizer. He found them chained above a blood altar, where a King-tier blood creature noticed him.

  • Lu Cang obtained the Adventurer's Guild report and learned that Loth and Maizer had gone missing after encountering a King-tier Demonic Beast.
  • Lu Cang hurried to the Blood Sacrifice Cave, using his magic to illuminate and safely explore the dungeon.
  • Lu Cang fought through Blood Puppets, disarmed traps, and continued searching while carrying protective gear in case he met the King-tier monster.
  • Lu Cang found Loth and Maizer chained above an altar surrounded by hundreds of kneeling Blood Puppets.
  • A crimson-armored King-tier creature on a blood-red throne spotted Lu Cang and called him a new guest.

Ch. 49Facing the King

Lu Cang rescued Loth and Maizer from the Blood Puppets but discovered they were afflicted with the King-tier Demonic Beast’s Blood Curse. He chose to fight the beast rather than risk taking them to a healer, trapping it behind walls and bombarding it with spells while it waited for his mana to run out.

  • Lu Cang cut down the Blood Puppets, freed Loth and Maizer from their blood chains, and caught them as he prepared to escape.
  • The King-tier Demonic Beast revealed that Loth and Maizer had been afflicted with Blood Curse, and Lu Cang attacked it with a combination of lava, pillars, and walls.
  • Lu Cang sent Loth and Maizer down the cleared passage and enclosed them in protective walls before resuming his attack.
  • Lu Cang repeatedly replaced the walls the beast broke and kept bombarding it with spells while ignoring its taunts.
  • The trapped beast endured Lu Cang’s attacks and planned to outlast him by waiting for his mana to run out.

Ch. 50Temper

Lu Cang destroyed the altar while battling the Blood Origin King, then fought it in the narrow passage with layers of barriers, walls, and spells. He prevented it from absorbing more blood and finally killed it, leaving its armor and crystalline blood beads on the ground.

  • Lu Cang shattered the altar with Skyfall and other spells, weakening the Blood Origin King.
  • The Blood Origin King broke through Lu Cang’s barriers, but Lu Cang rebuilt his defenses and attacked with a barrage of spells.
  • Lu Cang used Repelling Wind Blast and layers of walls and barriers to keep the Blood Origin King from reaching him.
  • The Blood Origin King tried to absorb the blood scattered around the room, but Lu Cang dispersed, froze, and vaporized it.
  • Lu Cang killed the Blood Origin King and found its armor and crystalline blood beads on the ground.

Ch. 51Job Scroll

Lu Cang rescued Loth and Maizer after killing the Blood Origin King alone, then discovered a valuable Job Transfer Secret Scroll among the spoils. Maizer gave the scroll to Lu Cang, though its class remained unknown until appraisal.

  • Lu Cang revived Loth and Maizer with potions, and they learned he had killed the Blood Origin King.
  • Loth and Maizer were shocked that Lu Cang had come alone and defeated the King-tier beast without cutting off its connection to the blood pool.
  • Lu Cang asked Maizer to collect the spoils, and Maizer found armor, five blood beads, and a secret scroll near the throne.
  • Maizer explained the kinds of rare and forbidden classes secret scrolls could contain and estimated that the scroll might be worth hundreds of thousands to hundreds of millions of gold.
  • Maizer resisted his greed and handed the Job Transfer Secret Scroll to Lu Cang.

Ch. 52Someone Had Come Looking

After returning to Rhein Town with Loth and Maizer, Lu Cang earned acclaim for killing the Blood Origin King and held on to its valuable drops. A monocled man repeatedly sought him out, and Lu Cang finally asked him what he wanted.

  • Lu Cang and the others saw the sky turn black and reveal a blue-edged void before the strange phenomenon faded.
  • Loth and Maizer returned safely to Rhein Town, where adventurers marveled that Lu Cang had killed the Blood Origin King without severing its blood pool.
  • Xili valued the Blood Armor and Pure Essence Blood, and Lu Cang decided to keep them for now.
  • Lu Cang refused to meet the monocled man waiting in the guild hall, then earned five gold coins by telling the adventurers about his battle.
  • Lu Cang saw the same monocled man in the hotel lobby and elevator, then asked whether he had been looking for him.

Ch. 53Messe

Lu Cang met the mysterious mage Messe, who offered to teach him a spell that could break the curse preventing him from advancing before age sixteen. Suspicious but tempted by the promise of independence, Lu Cang took Messe’s spell notes and a Job Transfer Secret Scroll, then left the hotel to stay with adventurers while he remained on guard.

  • Messe approached Lu Cang in the hotel lobby and offered to teach him a spell that could break the curse of being watched.
  • Messe explained that Lu Cang’s unusual spirituality made early advancement possible, but only if he escaped the curse before turning sixteen.
  • Lu Cang refused to learn the spell until he could ask Iz, and Messe said meeting Iz would lead to a fight before revealing his name.
  • Messe slipped three incantation notes and a Job Transfer Secret Scroll into Lu Cang’s pocket, then vanished before Lu Cang could question him.
  • Lu Cang asked the receptionist about Messe, then went to the adventurers’ guild to celebrate and avoid sleeping alone at the hotel.

Ch. 54Fortune-Teller

After learning that Messe was dangerous and that his scroll taught the ancient Decipherer profession, Lu Cang learned from Pali that a monster horde was about to invade Rhein Town. Pali urged him to go to the western entrance, and Lu Cang chose to trust her prediction and set out, unaware that she had described his fortune as Supreme Misfortune accompanied by Supreme Auspiciousness.

  • Lu Cang visited Pali to ask about Messe and have a secret scroll appraised, but Pali warned him that Messe was dangerous and told him to forget their meeting.
  • Pali abruptly resigned from her library post and left town with her books, explaining that Lu Cang's scrolls were for a Death Priest and the ancient Decipherer profession.
  • Pali warned Lu Cang that monsters were gathering west of Rhein Town and that the town was about to be invaded.
  • Lu Cang decided to accompany Pali despite fearing for his safety, then asked her to predict his luck.
  • Pali told Lu Cang he faced minor good fortune followed by great misfortune if he stayed, so he chose to go to the western entrance.
  • After Lu Cang left, Pali revealed that his true fortune was Supreme Misfortune accompanied by Supreme Auspiciousness.

Ch. 55The Attack

Lu Cang fought a sudden beast tide attacking Rhein Town, using powerful area magic to tear through the monsters and kill several lords. As other mages joined the defense, a Tier 4 mage’s tornado showed that the town had more formidable magic users than Lu Cang had expected.

  • Lu Cang spotted a vast beast tide outside Rhein Town as alarm bells rang and the town’s residents rushed to prepare for the attack.
  • Lu Cang cast Chain Lightning and Wall of Flame repeatedly, killing monsters by the hundreds and forming a defensive line on the wall.
  • Lu Cang used Earth Fire Collapse Heaven, Life Wind Swarm, and Holy Judgment Crosses to kill the Sharp-toothed Rabbit King, Hundred-Pincer Centipede, and Undead Knight King.
  • Mages arrived on the wall and joined the battle, though their basic attacks seemed weak beside Lu Cang’s magic.
  • A mage wearing a blue wizard’s hat cast a Tier 4 Tornado that lifted and hurled monsters across the battlefield.

Ch. 56Tier 5 Monsters

Lu Cang helped defend Rhein Town from a monster tide, evolving his Chain Lightning and Wall of Flame while killing monsters and supporting the adventurers. When a regenerating Tier 5 War Elephant appeared, level 5 adventurers confronted it, and Lu Cang continued supporting the battle from the city wall.

  • Lu Cang watched a Warrior charge into the monster horde and kill monsters with a flurry of punches and kicks.
  • Lu Cang evolved Chain Lightning into a Tier 2 skill and Wall of Flame into Tier 2 Firewall, then used them to devastate groups of monsters.
  • A Tier 5 War Elephant emerged from the mist, and a level 5 adventurer severed one of its legs, which quickly regenerated.
  • Lu Cang answered the adventurers' call for help and used his spells to kill monsters and support the battle against lord-class monsters.
  • The adventurers praised Lu Cang's strength as he continued defending Rhein Town from atop the city wall.

Ch. 57Sea of Fire

Lu Cang held back the Demonic Tide threatening Rhein Town by evolving Firewall into a vast Sea of Fire, while the battle continued to rage. The chapter ended when an invisible assassin struck at him and his barrier barely stopped the dagger from reaching his eye.

  • Lu Cang asked Pali how long Demonic Tides lasted and learned that some could continue for months.
  • Lu Cang evolved Firewall into Sea of Fire Technique, spreading flames across the ground beyond the city wall.
  • The observer reported that Lu Cang had killed 121,359 monsters, and Lu Cang reassured the Level 4 mage that his mana was fine.
  • The observer warned Lu Cang about an invisible assassin, whose dagger struck his barrier beside his eye.
  • Lu Cang used Repelling Wind Blast.

Ch. 58The Nest

Lu Cang escaped a Level 4 assassin’s attack and helped the nearby Warriors defeat her. When they removed her mask, they discovered she was a Face Worm, and the Warrior concluded the monster tide was an invasion from a nest.

  • A masked Level 4 assassin attacked Lu Cang, but his Protective Barrier gave him time to blast her away and call for help.
  • Lu Cang fled on an ice shuttle and used ice shuttles, wind, walls, and other magic to stall and trap the assassin.
  • The nearby Level 4 Warriors arrived, and one of them fought the weakened assassin while Lu Cang supported him with magic.
  • The Warrior knocked away the assassin’s dagger and captured her, then removed her mask to reveal a face crawling with worms.
  • The Warrior identified her as a Face Worm, killed her, and declared that the monster tide was an invasion from a nest.

Ch. 59The Monarch Horde

After returning to Rhein Town’s west wall, Lu Cang learned that the Demonic Tide might be connected to the Swarm lair and faced a wave of King-tier beasts that appeared to be targeting him. He stayed to defend the town, counting on its protective array and the expected return of Iz and the others.

  • Lu Cang returned to the battlefield, where the Observer watched over him and two Level 3 defenders were assigned to guard him.
  • The Observer explained the legends of the ancient lairs and identified the Face Worms controlling the assassin as possible evidence of an invasion by the Swarm lair.
  • A distant fight between Level 5 adventurers erupted as Cruel Esvalro and other King-tier Demonic Beasts emerged from the forest.
  • The Observer warned Lu Cang that the King-tier beasts seemed to be targeting him, and he tried to flee before learning that Rhein Town had Iz’s protective array and that Iz and the others were expected back.
  • Lu Cang chose to stay and help defend Rhein Town as the Level 4 adventurers engaged the King-tier beasts, leaving thirteen more for the outnumbered defenders to face.

Ch. 60To Stand Against a Thousand

Lu Cang fought off waves of Tier 3 King-tier demonic beasts attacking Rhein Town, killing several while helping the defenders hold the wall. With more beasts still emerging from the distant forest, he asked a Tier 4 mage for advice on his spellcasting, and the mage wondered whether Lu Cang had invented his spells himself.

  • Lu Cang used ice, fire, wind, and stone spells to hinder the King-tier beasts and focus his attacks on the fastest threats.
  • When the Swift Black Bee King reached the wall and gravely injured defenders, Lu Cang slowed and weakened it so the Tier 3 adventurers could kill it.
  • Lu Cang killed the Evil Face Demon Spider Monarch and the Torment Moth, while his spells crippled a centipede-like beast.
  • Two more King-tier demonic beasts emerged from the distant forest as a Tier 4 mage ran out of mana.
  • Lu Cang asked the exhausted mage for spellcasting advice, and the mage asked whether Lu Cang had invented his spells himself.
