Ch. 421A Talk in the Netherworld

Xuan Qing learned that Mosquito Daoist had begun corrupting the Western Lands’ Earth Veins with the Chaos Demon Gods’ resentment, then secretly coordinated with the Earth Dao to contain the damage. He left the Earth Dao to protect the world’s origin while allowing the Chaos Demon Gods to continue their moves, hoping to expose and eliminate them.

  • The Spirit of the Ancestral Vein reported that someone had tampered with an Earth Vein Node, and Xuan Qing rushed to Kunwu Mountain.
  • Xuan Qing discovered that the Chaos Demon Gods’ resentment was flowing through the Earth Veins and removed its influence from the Spirit of the Ancestral Vein.
  • Xuan Qing used the Immeasurable Eye to identify Mosquito Daoist working inside an Earth Vein Node.
  • Xuan Qing went to the Netherworld and asked the Earth Dao to seal away the resentment without reacting openly to the attack.
  • The Earth Dao agreed to follow Xuan Qing’s plan and protect the Prehistoric Era’s World Origin, while Houtu was told to guard the Netherworld.

Ch. 422Disciples of the Three Teachings Enter the Netherworld

Mosquito Daoist’s resentment spread through the Western Lands as the Demon Gods remained unaware that the Earth Dao was containing it. Zhao Gongming, Guang Chengzi, Ksitigarbha, and a Human Race Golden Immortal were chosen to represent their respective groups in the Netherworld, while Ran Deng plotted to use Guang Chengzi’s likely failure against him.

  • Mosquito Daoist planted resentment deeper in the Western Lands, while Xuan Qing’s Immeasurable Mark and the Earth Dao kept it from harming the Spirit of the Ancestral Vein.
  • Zhao Gongming accepted the Jie Sect’s Netherworld position and left Golden Ao Island after entrusting the Inner Sect’s affairs to San Xiao.
  • Yuanshi appointed Guang Chengzi to the Chan Sect’s position, and Ran Deng privately predicted that Guang Chengzi would fail and lose the other disciples’ respect.
  • Ksitigarbha volunteered to establish a Western Teach foothold in the Underworld, and Zhunti warned him to act carefully around Pingxin and Great Emperor Fengdu.
  • Xiao chose a Golden Immortal from the Human Race to go to the Underworld and establish a foundation for his people.

Ch. 423Becoming a Probationary Yama

Xiao appointed Zheng to help maintain Reincarnation and brought Zhao Gongming, Guang Chengzi, and Ksitigarbha to take temporary posts as Yama. After placing Ksitigarbha under secret watch, Xiao and Houtu observed the new officials from the Hall of Pingxin.

  • Xiao told Zheng that his duty in the Underworld was to maintain the normal operation of Reincarnation.
  • At the Blood Sea, Zhao Gongming respectfully greeted Xiao, while Guang Chengzi and Ksitigarbha showed less regard for him.
  • Xiao warned the three disciples that the Underworld’s rules applied equally to everyone, and Zhao Gongming promised to leave if he failed at his duties.
  • Fei Ying and Jiang Zhu gave the four men official robes and seals for temporary Yama posts, and Xiao told them to seek guidance rather than act independently.
  • Fei Ying and Jiang Zhu explained that their master was the Death Goddess and warned the new officials to stay away from her Dao Field.
  • Xiao secretly instructed Fei Ying to watch Ksitigarbha, then joined Houtu to observe events from the Hall of Pingxin.

Ch. 424Guang Chengzi Slacks Off

Xiao managed the understaffed Underworld while Guang Chengzi grew tired of his Yama duties and began carelessly assigning souls to reincarnation. Xiao removed Guang Chengzi’s authority to judge good and evil, but Guang Chengzi later taught Ksitigarbha to judge souls just as casually.

  • Houtu entered seclusion to strengthen herself before the Witch-Demon decisive battle, leaving the Underworld to Xiao.
  • After tens of thousands of years without subordinates, Guang Chengzi complained to Fei Ying about his workload and returned to Yama Hall unsatisfied.
  • Guang Chengzi arbitrarily assigned countless living beings to the Six Paths of Reincarnation using the Book of Life and Death.
  • Xiao took away Guang Chengzi’s authority to judge good and evil and told Fei Ying to report any further serious mistakes to Empress Houtu.
  • Guang Chengzi grew careless with his duties and told Ksitigarbha to judge living beings’ deeds with a casual stroke.

Ch. 425Houtu's Fury

Guang Chengzi disregarded warnings in the Underworld, nearly died after plucking a Shore Flower, and then trespassed on Death Mountain to seize its treasures. Houtu appeared and took him away, saying she would speak with Yuanshi.

  • Guang Chengzi dismissed Ksitigarbha’s concerns about angering Great Emperor Fengdu, and Ksitigarbha withdrew from him.
  • Guang Chengzi plucked a Shore Flower by the Yellow Springs, was drawn into the river, and survived its corrosive waters by swallowing Laozi’s Golden Elixir.
  • Jiang Zhu restored the discarded flower with Three Lights Divine Water, accidentally ripened it into a boy named Chi Yuan, and took him with her to the Underworld.
  • Guang Chengzi climbed Death Mountain and tried to claim its spiritual treasures despite Fei Ying’s warning.
  • Fei Ying confronted Guang Chengzi, who boasted that his master Yuanshi could not be challenged.
  • Houtu arrived with Xiao, seized Guang Chengzi, and vanished with him to speak with Yuanshi, leaving Sister Qing Yue to watch over the Netherworld.

Ch. 426Qing Yue Returns to the Netherworld

Qing Yue returned to the Netherworld after Houtu summoned her, and learned that Guang Chengzi had trespassed in her Dao Field and been expelled. Houtu confronted Yuanshi at Kunlun Mountain, while the Ancestral Witches debated whether to support her.

  • Houtu summoned Qing Yue from the Blood Sea, and Qing Yue brought Qing Ya and the others back to the Netherworld to guard it.
  • Ksitigarbha and Zhao Gongming learned that Guang Chengzi had neglected his reincarnation duties, and Xiao announced his expulsion from the Netherworld.
  • Qing Yue returned and learned Guang Chengzi had tried to seize her Dao Field; she revealed her Saintly presence and told the others that Houtu had gone to confront him.
  • Xiao assigned Guang Chengzi's responsibilities to Fei Ying and warned Zheng and the others to perform their duties conscientiously.
  • Houtu threw Guang Chengzi down at Kunlun Mountain and called for Yuanshi, while Zhu Rong wanted to go support her and Zhu Jiuyin stopped him.

Ch. 427No Comparison, No Harm

Houtu confronted Yuanshi over Guang Chengzi’s misconduct in the Underworld and revoked the Chan Sect’s Yama quota. The other Saints arrived at Kunlun Mountain, where Yuanshi, Laozi, and Tongtian tried to persuade Houtu to reconsider.

  • Houtu arrived at Kunlun Mountain as Empress Pingxin after Guang Chengzi was thrown back from the Underworld.
  • Houtu told Yuanshi that Guang Chengzi had altered the Book of Life and Death, encouraged others to shirk their duties, and damaged Qing Yue’s Dao Field while trying to seize its spiritual treasures.
  • Houtu revoked the Chan Sect’s quota in the Underworld and refused Yuanshi’s plea to give Guang Chengzi another chance.
  • Yuanshi’s disciples, including Ran Deng and Cihang, grew jealous and dissatisfied as Yuanshi pleaded for Guang Chengzi.
  • Tongtian and Laozi arrived, and Houtu praised Zhao Gongming’s work while Zhunti and Jieyin learned that Ksitigarbha had performed acceptably.
  • Yuanshi, Laozi, and Tongtian blamed Guang Chengzi’s misconduct on his difficulty adapting to the Underworld and urged Houtu to understand.

Ch. 428Little Sprites

Houtu and the Saints discussed the Heavenly Dao’s plans for the Netherworld, while Qing Ya, Qing Ling, and Qing Yue returned to the Blood Sea to meet the little sprites. Qing Ling resolved to find a way to take them from their spirit trees without disrupting their work purifying the Blood Sea.

  • Houtu invoked Xuan Qing’s connection to her friend, and the Saints stopped defending Guang Chengzi after learning he had offended him.
  • The Saints gathered at the Jade Void Palace and discussed how to place a disciple in the Netherworld after Guang Chengzi’s expulsion.
  • Houtu welcomed Qing Ya and Qing Ling after their breakthroughs, and they agreed to cooperate with her while keeping their identities secret until the time was right.
  • Houtu showed the Qing Ya Sisters around the Netherworld, where Qing Ya and Qing Ling gained insight from Death Mountain.
  • Qing Ya, Qing Ling, and Qing Yue went to the Blood Sea and met the little sprites, who explained that they could not leave the Pure Ginko Trees because the trees purified the Filth Qi.
  • Qing Ling said she had come to solve the problem and became determined to take the little sprites with her.

Ch. 429Humanity's Calamity Rises Again

Qing Ya and Qing Ling learned that the little spirits in the Blood Sea could leave only after reaching Grand Luo Golden Immortal, then departed as a calamity approached. Meanwhile, attacks on the Human Race revealed that demons were secretly eating humans, and Sui Ren Shi and the other ancestors began to suspect a new trial had started.

  • Qing Ya and Qing Ling discovered that the Earth Dao had created the little spirits and that they could escape the Pure Ginko Tree only by reaching Grand Luo Golden Immortal.
  • Qing Ya warned the little spirits to stay hidden during the coming calamity, then she and Qing Ling left the Blood Sea.
  • Zhao Gongming reported that injured Human Race souls were arriving in the Netherworld, and Xiao suspected the Demon Clan had eaten them.
  • Lesser demons secretly abducted humans across the Primordial Land to increase their cultivation, and the growing losses reached Sui Ren Shi.
  • You Chao Shi suggested that the attacks might mark the beginning of the calamity Xiao had foretold.

Ch. 430A Lesser Demon's New Discovery

Sui Ren Shi and the other Human Race leaders struggled to respond as Lesser Demons escalated their attacks, while the demons discovered that weapons stained by wronged human souls could pierce Witch bodies. The chapter ended with two survivors reaching Sui Ren Shi for help as the demons flew to report their discovery to the Heavenly Court.

  • Sui Ren Shi, You Chao Shi, and Zi Yi Shi debated how to protect the Human Race but resumed cultivating without reaching a solution.
  • Lesser Demons slaughtered a Human Tribe, grew stronger by devouring its people, and absorbed the victims' souls into their Spiritual Treasures.
  • A Witch Clan member attacked the demons, but one demon killed him with a soul-tainted Long Sword that pierced his body.
  • The Lesser Demons tested their Spiritual Treasures on the Witch Clan member and realized the weapons could overcome the Witch Clan's physical strength.
  • The demons set off for the Heavenly Court to report their discovery, while two surviving humans reached Sui Ren Shi and pleaded for justice.

Ch. 431Sui Ren Shi's Helplessness

After a human tribe was devoured by demons, Sui Ren Shi struggled to balance revenge with protecting the Human Race from the Demon Clan’s power. Meanwhile, the demons responsible fled to the Heavenly Court, where Kunpeng arrived as they argued with the South Heaven Gate guards.

  • A survivor told Sui Ren Shi that the Demon Clan had wiped out their tribe and eaten its members.
  • The Human Race’s leaders demanded revenge, but Sui Ren Shi warned that provoking Di Jun’s forces could endanger hundreds of millions of humans.
  • Sui Ren Shi ordered every tribe to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious, while the Human Race mourned and began secluded cultivation.
  • A group of Grand Unity Golden Immortals from the Demon Clan fled to the Heavenly Court after killing members of the Witch Clan.
  • The South Heaven Gate guards refused to let the demons enter without explaining their business, and Kunpeng arrived and asked what had happened.

Ch. 432Di Jun's Decision

Kunpeng brought the Lesser Demons’ discovery to Di Jun: devouring humans rapidly increased Demon cultivation and produced a weapon capable of piercing the Witch Clan’s bodies. Di Jun chose to exploit the discovery, ordering Kunpeng and Bai Ze to hunt humans and forge a Treasure Sword, despite Nuwa’s warning.

  • The Lesser Demons told Kunpeng that devouring one Human Tribe had raised them from Heavenly Immortals to Grand Unity Golden Immortals.
  • Kunpeng took the Lesser Demons to report their discovery to Di Jun, while suspicious Fuxi secretly followed them.
  • The Lesser Demons showed Di Jun a Spiritual Treasure transformed by human souls that could pierce a Witch’s body.
  • Di Jun rewarded the Lesser Demons and ordered Kunpeng and Bai Ze to slaughter humans outside the Yellow River Basin and forge a Treasure Sword.
  • Fuxi objected to Di Jun’s decision.

Ch. 433Heavenly Dao Blocks the Way

Di Jun ordered the Demon Clan to attack the Human Race despite Fuxi’s warning about the consequences, and the Heavenly Dao blocked Nuwa from intervening. The Demon Clan marched out as Nuwa, Han Xi, and Wang Shu learned that the Human Race’s suffering was part of its transformation into the Human Dao.

  • Fuxi entered the Lingxiao Treasure Hall and urged Di Jun not to attack the Human Race, but Di Jun dismissed his objections and ordered him to remain in the Heavenly Court.
  • Fuxi left the hall and found his palace surrounded by Demon Clan forces, realizing Di Jun had placed him under house arrest.
  • Bai Ze and Kunpeng avoided leading the attack, while Jiu Ying led demons out through the South Heaven Gate to attack the Human Race.
  • Nuwa prepared to intervene, but the Heavenly Dao appeared outside Zhou Mountain and blocked her, saying the Human Race had to undergo a trial and would not be exterminated.
  • Han Xi and Wang Shu joined Nuwa and questioned the Heavenly Dao, which explained that the Human Race had to transform for the Human Dao to fully emerge.

Ch. 434The Demon Clan's Slaughter

Xuan Qing allowed Heavenly Dao to bring calamity upon the Human Race, believing that only a devastating trial could make them strong enough to shape the future. As Jiu Ying's Demon Clan army slaughtered human tribes and collected their souls and flesh, Sui Ren Shi ordered the survivors to flee and broke down under the weight of his people's suffering.

  • Xuan Qing told Zhuo Guang that the Human Race had to endure destruction before it could stand stronger, and he accepted that they might resent him or Nuwa.
  • Jiu Ying led the Demon Clan army into the Primordial Land, and the Ancestral Witches decided to watch because the army was heading for the Human Race rather than the Witch Clan.
  • Jiu Ying ordered his army to slaughter a Human Tribe, collect its flesh and blood, and absorb its wronged souls into a Spiritual Treasure refined by Di Jun.
  • After reports of more massacres reached the Human Ancestor Hall, Sui Ren Shi ordered every tribe to flee to deadlands, forbidden lands, or powerful beings' Dao Fields rather than be captured by the Demon Clan.
  • After the other leaders left, Sui Ren Shi collapsed and asked You Chao Shi and Zi Yi Shi whether he had failed as Clan Leader, while they urged him not to give up.

Ch. 435Sworn Enmity with the Demon Clan

The Demon Clan attacked the Human Race, and Sui Ren Shi led the Human Ancestors in a desperate effort to help their people escape. The slaughter left most of the Human Race brought from the Yellow River Basin dead, while the survivors swore eternal enmity with the Demon Clan.

  • Sui Ren Shi rallied the Human Race in the Yellow River Basin and led them out to delay the Demon Clan’s advance.
  • Jiu Ying sent Demon Clan forces to intercept the fleeing humans, and elders sacrificed themselves so children and other clan members could escape.
  • Sui Ren Shi used his Merit Golden Wheel to force Jiu Ying to withdraw an attack and suffer severe backlash.
  • You Chao Shi revealed his own Merit Golden Wheel, and the Three Ancestors of the Human Race held back the Demon Clan while survivors fled.
  • Sui Ren Shi and the surviving Human Race swore never to coexist with the Demon Clan, after ninety percent of the people brought from the Yellow River Basin had perished.

Ch. 436Thanking Great Immortal Zhen Yuanzi

Zhen Yuanzi protected the Human Race fleeing into Longevity Mountain, forcing Jiu Ying and the Demon Clan Army to withdraw and receiving a share of Human Dao Destiny. As the Demon Clan continued hunting humans elsewhere, Nuwa forged the Monster Summoning Banner, a treasure that could resurrect dead Demon Clan members.

  • Sui Ren Shi watched helplessly as Jiu Ying pursued the Human Race toward the Western Lands, and some of the fugitives fled into Longevity Mountain.
  • Zhen Yuanzi vowed to protect the Human Race, used the Earth Book to shield Longevity Mountain, and threatened Di Jun with blocking the South Heaven Gate.
  • Di Jun ordered Jiu Ying to withdraw from Longevity Mountain, and the Human Race bowed to Zhen Yuanzi, granting him one-tenth of Human Dao Destiny.
  • Zhen Yuanzi welcomed the Human Race to remain in Longevity Mountain and appointed Qing Feng and Ming Yue to help them.
  • Nuwa watched Zhen Yuanzi protect the Human Race, then forged the Monster Summoning Banner, which could resurrect Demon Clan members from their True Spirits.

Ch. 437The Overbearing Mystic Turtle

The Mystic Turtle barred the Demon Clan from the Northern Continent, allowing the Human Race refugees there to settle under King Pan’s protection. Elsewhere, Jiu Ying caught the largest fleeing group near Shouyang Mountain, and Xuandu desperately begged Laozi to save them.

  • Nuwa revealed that the Monster Summoning Banner could trap Demon Clan Primordial Spirits in a corrosive space or restore them with Three Lights Divine Water.
  • King Pan confronted the Demon Clan army at the Northern Continent’s border, and the Mystic Turtle appeared, crushed Jiu Ying with Saintly pressure, and expelled the army from the North.
  • The Mystic Turtle forbade the Demon Clan from entering the Northern Continent, while King Pan welcomed the Human Race refugees and received some of their Auspicious Qi.
  • Jiu Ying pursued the largest group of fleeing Human Race members to a blessed mountain and began slaughtering them.
  • Xuandu saw the Human Race suffering below Shouyang Mountain and repeatedly begged his teacher Laozi for help until Laozi emerged from the Great Hall.

Ch. 438The Calamity Ends!

Laozi ended the Demon Clan’s massacre of the Human Race, and the survivors mourned their dead while the Demon Clan returned to the Heavenly Court with the collected souls and flesh. Di Jun named the blood-forged sword the Witch-Slaying Sword, while Fuxi’s cold response to the slaughter strained his relationship with Di Jun and Bai Ze.

  • Laozi appeared, healed Xuandu, and ordered the Demon Clan to leave the Primordial Land, ending the Human Race’s calamity.
  • The surviving humans praised Laozi and then grieved over the many clansmen who had been killed.
  • Jiu Ying returned to the Heavenly Court with the human souls, and the Demon Clan’s Auspicious Qi became stained with Karmic Sin.
  • Di Jun named the Treasure Sword the Witch-Slaying Sword and ordered the Human Race’s flesh and blood distributed among Golden Immortal Demon Clan members.
  • Fuxi saw Bai Ze carrying the bloody remains, entered the Great Hall, and left without questioning Di Jun about the massacre.
  • Di Jun grew angry at Fuxi’s indifference, while Bai Ze lamented that his relationship with Fuxi had broken.

Ch. 439Zhunti Seeks to Make a Move Against the Human Race

After the Demon Clan’s slaughter, the surviving Human Race began rebuilding and vowed to grow strong enough to seek revenge. In the Western Lands, Zhunti and Jieyin saw the humans’ refusal to follow the Western Teach as a threat and planned to act once they had spread and recovered.

  • The Ancestral Witches let the Demon Clan retreat, while Zhu Jiuyin wondered whether the devastated Human Race could still rise.
  • At the Human Ancestral Land, Sui Ren Shi opened the clan’s cultivation resources and urged survivors to repay the Demon Clan’s blood debt.
  • Nuwa stayed away from the Human Race, believing her presence would unsettle them, while Han Xi and Wang Shu worried about her guilt.
  • The Human Race slowly regained vitality, though most of the first-born Innate Human Race had died and many survivors had fled west.
  • Zhunti proposed attacking the Human Race for disrupting the Western Lands’ order, but Jieyin told him to wait until the humans had spread and recovered.

Ch. 440Xi He's Resolve

Zhunti relocated the Human Race to the harsh lands near the Blood Sea to suppress their growth, while Chang Xi’s grief over their slaughter grew into anger toward the Demon Clan. Xi He returned to the Heavenly Court despite Chang Xi’s pleas, believing her own fate was bound to it and that distance would protect her sister.

  • Zhunti assigned the Human Race to the desolate region near the Netherworld Sea of Blood, and they resolved to survive there and develop until they could return east.
  • Chang Xi learned of the Demon Clan’s slaughter of the Human Race and felt her anger intensify under Chang'e’s influence.
  • Xi He soothed Chang Xi with the power of Taiyin, but Chang Xi’s feelings toward Di Jun and the Heavenly Court turned to disgust and fear.
  • Chang Xi urged Xi He to leave the Heavenly Court, but Xi He swore to live and die with her husband and flew away.
  • Xi He secretly stopped after leaving the Lunar Star and decided Chang Xi should remain behind, away from the karmic burden tied to her and the Heavenly Court.
