Ye Mo looked at the entire sky and shook his little head.
Rather than trying to erase him, this felt more like a test. Ordinary heavenly lightning was nowhere near this weak.
And it had only struck down a few bolts of lightning. If it truly wanted to erase him, why not simply send down an overwhelmingly powerful bolt of heavenly lightning and finish him off?
When he had fused with the purple fox just now, a strange energy had appeared within his body—the Soul Power they had mentioned before.
Although he had seen them use Soul Power before, seeing it and experiencing it firsthand were entirely different things.
This energy was not much weaker than the True Essence he had cultivated in his previous life, and it was even more aggressive and destructive.
The Soul Rings beneath his feet flickered, and Ye Mo returned to where he had first been struck. A wave of weakness surged through his body. It seemed this soul skill consumed a great deal of his strength as well.
But Ye Mo had guessed wrong this time. Or perhaps his earlier actions had angered the heavens themselves. An aura locked onto him, followed by a bolt of heavenly lightning even more powerful than before.
What the hell is going on? Shouldn't it stop at this point according to the script?
Ye Mo immediately panicked. Had he overdone the act just now and truly provoked the heavens into trying to erase him?
Just as Ye Mo was about to call for help, it seemed to be too late. He could only watch helplessly as the heavenly lightning descended toward his body.
At that moment, the Nine-Tailed Fox Statue erupted with dazzling white light, shrouding the entire Heart Tide Lake. The lightning that was about to strike Ye Mo seemed to disperse under that white radiance.
The white light showed no sign of stopping. It spread into the sky, gathering into a gigantic palm that slammed fiercely against the cloud-covered heavens.
The sky returned once more to its previous clear and cloudless state.
"This is..."
Ye Mo stared at the white light in astonishment. It was warm and comforting, and he seemed to share some inexplicable bond with it.
"Mm..."
A long, ethereal voice rang out, seeming like both a moan and a sigh.
"Who?"
Ye Mo looked around. Only then did he realize that Hu Zixin and the others had all frozen in place, their faces still fixed with their earlier expressions of shock and alarm.
No, it was not just Hu Zixin and the others. Even the clan members near Heart Tide Lake were the same.
It was as though time itself had stopped around them.
Rumble...
At that moment, the interior of the Nine-Tailed Fox Statue began to shake, and white light covered the statue.
Moreover, the white light appeared to be shrinking, taking the Nine-Tailed Fox Statue with it.
Gradually, the white light shrank until it was the size of a human figure.
"Th-This is fucking unbelievable!"
Ye Mo's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. That white light could actually do this? A massive fox statue had turned directly into something the size of a person.
"Guardian of my clan, I have finally waited for you."
The voice was the same as before. So the voice from earlier had come from within the Nine-Tailed Fox Statue covered in white light.
The white light faded away, revealing a naked young girl before Ye Mo.
She had long black hair like ink and jet-black pupils. A pair of pointed ears, pale and nearly colorless, rose from her head. Nine fluffy silver-white fox tails emerged from behind her, their silver sheen pure and clear like moonlight, radiant and untainted. The tips of her tails carried a touch of crimson.
She possessed the innocence of a young girl, yet was incredibly seductive. Wait, why was his nose suddenly getting warm?
Stop, stop. I'm a battle-hardened veteran. Even if I died, I would never get a nosebleed.
Ye Mo touched his nose. It was wet. Mm, it was definitely a nosebleed.
She really was irresistible.
"Guardian, it seems you are quite interested in me."
The Nine-Tails girl took a single step. It was as though the entire space had shortened, and she instantly arrived before Ye Mo.
She looked at him with a teasing half-smile, her body completely exposed before him.
"Ahem, ahem. You should tell me what this guardian business is first."
Ye Mo covered his nose and spoke awkwardly. His nosebleed seemed to be flowing even more fiercely.
"Although the guardian's body is young, his thoughts and soul are quite mature."
As though she had not heard Ye Mo's question, Nine-Tails raised her hand and caressed his cheek, speaking with a soft laugh.
"Who exactly are you?"
Ye Mo's eyes turned profound. A frightening purple gleam flashed within his bewitching violet pupils. Anyone capable of recognizing his current state at a glance was no ordinary person.
"Who am I? It has been too long. Even I no longer remember. You may call me Nine-Tails."
Nine-Tails shook her head and let out a soft sigh, her entire body shrouded in inexplicable sorrow.
"Guardian, you need only remember this: I will not harm you. On the contrary, I will do everything in my power to help you. You could say that I can do anything for you."
As she spoke, Nine-Tails' fingers slowly slid downward in a provocative manner, seemingly moving toward a certain place.
Ye Mo shuddered. He was still just a child. Was she not even going to spare children?
Ye Mo hurriedly backed away, though his eyes remained very honest as they glanced over Nine-Tails' body.
"You should explain first why you call me the guardian."
Nine-Tails chuckled softly and looked at Ye Mo. "I do not have much time left. You are the guardian, and the entire Azure Hill Clan will be protected by you. Their survival or destruction rests upon a single thought of yours. One thought brings life; one thought brings death."
"What do you mean?"
Ye Mo frowned. Wasn't he supposed to lead the Azure Hill Clan to its peak? Why did she say the clan's survival depended on a single thought of his?
"Do not let the mortal world blind your eyes, and do not let hatred obscure your heart."
"You are the guardian. That means protecting the entire Azure Hill Clan. Whether the Azure Hill Clan can reach its peak rests in your hands."
What was all this? Ye Mo was completely confused. One moment it was survival or destruction, and the next it was whether they could rise to the peak.
"Mm..."
What was this?
Ye Mo's eyes widened. He had been forcibly kissed.
A soft, moist touch and a faint fragrance entered Ye Mo's nose. It felt as though all the strength in his body was being drained away.
After a long while, Nine-Tails pulled back, looking at Ye Mo with a light smile. His little face had turned as red as a monkey's butt.
Ye Mo did not notice the strange pattern emerging on his right arm. It looked exactly like the Nine-Tailed Fox Statue from before.
The white light around them gradually dimmed, as though it were about to collapse. Just as Ye Mo wanted to say something, Nine-Tails' entire body became covered in the same white light as before.
The white light slowly expanded, as though she were about to return to the form of the statue.
Nine-Tails quietly looked at Ye Mo, and Ye Mo quietly looked back at her.
"I look forward to the next meeting between the guardian and me. I hope that by then, you will have grown into a true Fox Emperor and be able to free me from this damned seal."
Nine-Tails muttered to herself. Ye Mo could only hear the first part clearly; he could not make out the rest at all. He had not expected a Martial Soul Assembly to produce so many unexpected events.
Thinking of that, Ye Mo's head began to ache again. Other people awakened their martial souls so simply. Why did he have to go through so much trouble?
There was no helping it. Who told Ye Mo he was the Young Emperor of the Azure Hill Clan?
Soon, the white radiance completely faded away, and confused expressions appeared on everyone's faces. Who am I? Where am I? What just happened?
Right, the Young Emperor! Hu Zixin hurriedly looked toward Ye Mo. Ye Mo stood at the very center of the small island, directly before the Nine-Tailed Fox Statue.
"The Azure Hill Clan will not wander forever, because I am here."
His voice was crisp and resounding. Though it still carried the innocence of a child, it possessed an irresistible imperial majesty as he swore this oath to the entire Azure Hill Clan.
Every clansman silently watched Ye Mo. This was the beginning of an immortal legend and the start of an ascent to greatness. They were the witnesses of the scene before them.
This legend would not fade even after a thousand—no, ten thousand—years, because it was the glory of the Azure Hill Clan.
After speaking those words, Ye Mo closed his eyes and slowly fell over. The soul skill he had used earlier had consumed too much of his Soul Power, and his soul was still in a weakened state. He desperately needed rest.
The last image he saw before closing his eyes was that of a beautiful young girl with pink pupils.
Writing two chapters a day leaves me no time to play Honor of Kings.
I want to rest tomorrow. ╥╥
